Spotify Wrapped 2023 Is Here, So Brace Yourself, Bestie

It’s time to reflect on the ups and downs of your 2023 music taste, because Spotify Wrapped is back! Wrapped has the potential to take you on a true rollercoaster by revealing your most-listened-to songs, artists, and genres. Some have been scrambling to listen to new music over the past month to override that embarrassing song they had on repeat. Others simply enjoy reliving their music journey. Spotify Wrapped 2023 has some exciting new ways to visualize your music taste that you won’t want to miss.

Spotify outdid themselves with the depth and scope of Wrapped 2023. While Wrapped 2023 delivers all the old favorites like top songs and total listening minutes, there’s also a new feature that assigns you one of 12 different listening habits. That’s not all. Spotify is also showing you a city in the world that matches your music taste. Here’s all you need to know about this year’s Spotify Wrapped, including how to find it, how Spotify tracks your data, and what these special new features entail.

How to find your 2023 Spotify Wrapped

2023’s Wrapped conveniently sticks a playlist of your top songs on your homepage under the banner “Your 2023 Wrapped,” which will probably last through the rest of the year. You can find it on the app or via the Spotify Wrapped website

Spotify Wrapped is also fun because you can compare your top music with previous years. All you have to do is type “Wrapped” into the search button on Spotify, and playlists featuring your most-listened-to music from past years will pop up. You may be shocked at how different your music taste was in 2018.

How does Spotify track your music data for Wrapped?

Spotify tracks the number of times you streamed a song, and every song you played for more than 30 seconds counts. It takes all of that data to produce a cute slideshow of your most listened to artists, genres, albums, and songs. This year, your top five genres appear in a stacked sandwich visual.

You also get a playlist of your top 100 songs, just in time to get nostalgic and reflective for New Year’s. Spotify definitely knows what it’s doing by making it shareable to Instagram, and sparking a little friendly competition between those in the top percentages of listeners.

Spotify doesn’t track your data up until the moment Wrapped comes out. Fans were surprised this year when Spotify confirmed that they were collecting data past Oct. 31, which used to be the normal cut-off date. Spotify never announced a new date, although they do stop collecting data a few weeks before Spotify Wrapped comes out. Now, you get the chance to see if that song you loved in early November made it into your favorites.

Spotify Wrapped 2023 has some new features.

“Me in 2023” is the hot new Wrapped feature, which details 12 different personalities based on listening habits. The personality types include: Shapeshifter, Alchemist, Luminary, Vampire, Collector, Cyclops, Hypnotist, Time Traveler, Roboticist, Mastermind, Hunter, and Fanatic. Run to your Spotify Wrapped to see what your assigned personality means about your listening style, whether you tend to loop one song over and over (Time Traveler) or listen to albums all the way through (Hypnotist).

“Sound Town” is another new feature in 2023. This one matches you with a global city based on the type of music you listen to. Spotify says this is meant to celebrate the way communities develop around shared music tastes and styles across the world. Maybe you’ll discover a new city filled with people who share your style.

Early in 2023, Spotify also released a personalized AI DJ named X, which curates new playlists based on your listening habits across the years. If you haven’t tried it yet, now is the perfect time, because for one week only, X will give you a little analysis of your 2023 Wrapped.

And if you’re one of those people who loves to compare your Wrapped with everyone else, don’t miss the Blend feature. You get the chance to combine your top songs with your friends for the ultimate 2023 playlist.

Lastly, don’t worry if you’re embarrassed about one of your top songs or artists. Spotify came through this year with GIPHY stickers that let users make commentary on their own Wrapped. Users can choose from animated stickers proclaiming things like “because the feels” to give their friends on social media and Whatsapp some context. There’s even a “redacted” sticker if you’d rather block out one song or artist from your Wrapped (we’ve all been there).

It seems like every year, Spotify gets more creative with their Wrapped features. AI only adds to the power Spotify has to analyze your listening habits, and for you to level up your music game. Make sure to take advantage of the next month of music reflection by exploring your 2023 Spotify Wrapped.
