With the Super Bowl LVIII approaching, Patrick Mahomes, quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, is getting ready to take on the San Francisco 49ers on Feb. 11. But being one of the most popular players in the NFL isn’t the only thing that he’s most known for.
Ever since Mahomes became a pro football player, his day one, Brittany Mahomes (née Matthews) has been by his side, and we’re so here for it. From high school sweethearts to marriage, here’s a look at Patrick and Brittany Mahomes’ relationship over the years.
March 2012: The Couple Starts Dating.
Patrick and Brittany began dating in 2012 while they were students at Whitehouse High School in Texas. At the time, Patrick was a sophomore and Brittany was a junior, but the grade difference didn’t stop Patrick from pursuing his wife. Starting off as friends for a year, Patrick gifted Brittany a card for Valentine’s Day, and well… the rest is history.
May 2013: Patrick and Brittany Attend Prom Together.
As Brittany geared up to graduate from high school in 2013, Patrick went as her date to her senior prom. Brittany wore a formal white blouse with a cute gold sequined skirt, and Patrick opted for a black, white, gold, and turquoise suited fit to match his partner. Mahomes even shared some photos from the night on Instagram, captioning the post, “Best prom date a guy could ask for!! #prom2013 #bestfriend #greatnight.”
August 2013-April 2017: The Couple Does Long Distance While Attending College.
Patrick and Brittany chose to attend different colleges in Texas. While Brittany went to the University of Texas to play soccer, Patrick headed off to Texas Tech University a year later to continue playing football. But despite attending different schools, the sporty couple managed to keep their romance alive.
April-May 2017: Both Patrick and Brittany Become Professional Athletes.
2017 was a good year for the couple, as they both celebrated the beginning of their careers as professional athletes. In April 2017, Mahomes was drafted into the Kansas City Chiefs as a quarterback, entering as the team’s first-round pick.
On Instagram, Brittany penned a sweet message on Instagram congratulating her man., “Officially a Kansas City Chiefs fan! I’m so proud of you Patrick!” she wrote. “I cannot wait to take on this amazing journey by your side!❤️ I love you lots!”
A month later, Matthews signed her own professional sports contract with the Icelandic soccer team, UMF Afturelding, with Mahomes and her family by her side.

May 2019: Patrick and Brittany buy a nearly $2 million home Together.
After being together for 6 years, Patrick and Brittany bought a $1.8 million three-bedroom home.
February 2020: Brittany supports her man after his 1st Super Bowl win.
Being the wonderful WAG that she is, Brittany supported Patrick when the Chiefs won the Super Bowl LIV in 2020. She took to Instagram to commemorate Patrick’s victorious moment.
September 2020: Patrick proposes to Brittany.
Continuing to live up to the modern romantic fairytale, the NFL star popped the question to his long-time girlfriend at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City in a floral-filled VIP box with a “Will You Marry Me” sign. And of course, she said yes! Surprisingly, Patrick was more nervous about proposing than playing in the Super Bowl. He told KCSP 610 Radio, “You don’t think it’s going to be nerve-wracking, especially when you’ve been with someone for so long, but before you get on that knee, your heart’s racing, I promise you that.”
September 2020: Soon-to-be bride and groom announce they’re expecting.
A few weeks after getting engaged, the couple announced on Sept. 29 that they were expecting a baby! “Mom & Dad, taking a small detour to the wedding,” Brittany captioned two photos of her holding up a sonogram while Patrick stood behind her.
A month later, the couple — with the help of their dogs — revealed the gender of their first child, as they hosted a gender reveal party via Zoom, due to the pandemic. Though both were filled with joy to welcome a baby girl, Patrick told KCSP 610 Radio that the most important thing to him was having a healthy baby and someone he’d be able to love for the rest of his life.
February 2021: The arrival of the couple’s first-born.
Patrick and Brittany announced their baby girl’s arrival on Feb. 21, 2021. Brittany posted a photo of her holding their child with the baby’s hand wrapped around her finger. The new mom also wore a necklace of her daughter’s name, which was revealed in the post’s caption, “Sterling Skye Mahomes 2/20/21.”
March 2022: Patrick and Brittany become Mr & Mrs.
A year after welcoming baby Sterling into the world, Brittany and Patrick tied the knot in Maui, Hawaii during a private ceremony.
May 2022: The couple announce that they are expecting their second child
A few months after getting married, Patrick and Brittany announced that they were expecting baby #2! In June 2022, they revealed that they were having a baby boy at their gender reveal party where they were able to celebrate with family and friends.
On Nov. 28, 2022, the couple welcomed their son Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III.
January 2023: Brittany shares her business venture with Patrick.
Patrick joined Brittany as an investor of the professional women’s soccer team, Kansas City Current.
“I am thankful for the chance to join @brittanylynne as part of the Kansas City Current’s ownership team,” he wrote on Instagram. “She and the Longs have done an incredible job building a world-class organization and I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history.”
February 2023: Patrick becomes an NFL MVP.
Just before the Super Bowl LIV, Patrick gave a heartfelt speech, as he accepted his second NFL MVP award. He said, “To my wife Brittany, my baby girl Sterling, and my son Bronze, this crazy life that we are living means nothing without y’all, keeping me balanced, and making me appreciate every single day,” Patrick said in the video. “No matter how I feel coming home, y’all bring me joy and make me appreciate the time that I get to spend with y’all. Thank you for always being there for me, through my good times and my bad. Love y’all.”
On Feb. 12, Brittany celebrated her husband’s second Super Bowl win.
May-July 2023: The couple attends a few red carpets together.
The Mahomes don’t just show out on the field, they also do so on the red carpet! Between May and June 2023, Patrick and Brittany attended the Met Gala, ESPYs, and the premier of Netflix’s docuseries Quarterback, looking as stylish as ever.
January 2024: Brittany supports Patrick at the Kansas City Chiefs Playoffs.
While the Kansas City Chiefs were playing a spot to compete in the Super Bowl LVIII, Brittany cheered on her husband at the wild card playoffs game against the Miami Dolphins on Jan. 13. Mrs. Mahomes joined Taylor Swift in the stands as they wore matching puffer jackets with their men’s numbers on them.
