The Oscar Best Picture Nominee You Should Watch, Based On Your Zodiac Sign

Clairvoyants, meteor strikes, and musical numbers, oh my! Oscars season is among us, and with 38 films on the register, finding the perfect one for you can be a daunting task. Luckily for you, your zodiac sign can tell us a lot more than just your daily horoscope: They can actually let you know what Oscar nom might just become your pick for Best Picture.

Between the 10 Best Picture and five Best Animated Feature nominees, the Oscars, which will air on March 27, are packed with films of all kinds. Between foreign films, black and white movies, and woman-directed cinema, there might just be something for everyone in the 94th Annual Academy Awards roster.

Her Campus talked to Linda Furiate, an astrologer and motivational speaker, to find out which Oscar Best Picture nominee or Best Animated Feature nominee you should watch, based on your zodiac sign. Grab your popcorn and get to watchin’, babe!

Aries: Raya and the Last Dragon

According to Furiate, “Aries likes action and adventure. They want to see the hero come alive and fight for what he or she believes in.” And what better film than the animated warrior epic, Raya and the Last Dragon?

The film follows Raya, a lone and skilled warrior who must defeat the monsters that threaten her homeland. The protagonist is fiery, passionate, and a total B.A. — just like Aries!

Taurus: Belfast

For a grounded, no bullsh*t Taurus (see what I did there?), Belfast is perfect. It’s a coming of age drama that tells the story of a boy growing up in Belfast, Northern Ireland during the beginning of the ethno-nationalist conflict in 1969.

“Taurus prefers a movie based on reality. No BS for them,” Furiate tells Her Campus. “Taurus is also more prone to see a film if they sense it will be a box office success, otherwise they are not going to waste their money or time.” And with Belfast grossing over $34 million worldwide, it was a hit in the indie box office arena.

Gemini: Drive My Car

Ruled by Mercury, Gemini is the bubbly sign of communication. Not to mention, their open-mindedness makes them great movie buddies: “If someone has the ‘pleasure’ of watching that film with the Gemini, be prepared for lots of questions and conversation before, during and after the movie,” says Furiate.

That’s why the drama film Drive My Car is a fantastic pick for these analytical babes. Full of drama, symbolism, and meaning, Drive My Car follows an actor who directs a live performance while also navigating the death of his wife. It’s weighty, deep, and a definite conversation starter.

Cancer: Encanto

One of the most emotional signs in the Zodiac, Cancers are more likely to enjoy films centered around family of comfort. According to Furiate, “Whether they are funny, adventurous, or thrilling, Cancer loves to see the dysfunction that runs through the family lineage to help ease their own insecurities of not fitting into the norms of society.”

Disney’s Encanto is a lighthearted story about family and magic. Equal parts fun, emotional, and thrilling, this animated film tells the story of a place where everyone was blessed with magic — except for our main character, Mirabel. Imaginative and quirky, Encanto is the perfect pick for a whimsical Cancer.

Leo: Licorice Pizza

Leos are the type to always cast themselves in a lead role, so what better than a good love story? Licorice Pizza is the story of two teenagers who fall in love in 1970s San Fernando Valley, and it is peak Leo energy.

“Leo is all about love and fun, only a romantic comedy will do,” Furiate says. “Leo wants to be purely entertained.” Full of fun teenage twists and turns, this film is perfect for a Leo with a main character complex.

Virgo: CODA

According to Furiate, “Virgo wants a great ‘takeaway’ from the film. The movie must serve a purpose and have a strong message. Otherwise, Virgo may prefer to stay home to catch up on chores or engage the mind in a more useful fashion.” That’s why CODA is the perfect fit for this invested and thoughtful sign.

Centered around the only hearing child in a deaf family, CODA navigates teenage issues like love, family, and acceptance. Meaningful and impactful, Virgos may find this film to be a great pick for a movie night.

Libra: West Side Story

Similarly to Leo, Libras crave some good ol’ romance. But Furiate says that Libras may be more connected to a practical, timeless romance film. Enter: West Side Story.

A remake of the 1962 classic, West Side Story is a movie musical highlighting a 1960s Romeo and Juliet romance. Full of romance and forbidden love, West Side Story is the perfect pick for the hopeless romantic in your life (that’s you, Libras!).

Scorpio: Power of the Dog

Brooding and mysterious, nothing screams Scorpio more than The Power of the Dog. This western about love, torment, and bloodshed will keep Scorpios on the edge of their seat with dramas and thrills.

Furiate revealed that “anything R-rated” will satisfy a Scorpio’s mature mind, and The Power of the Dog is full of explicit content, making it a perfect pick for their darker, more twisted interests.

Sagittarius: Nightmare Alley

The dark fantasy film Nightmare Alley will allow adventurous Sagittarius to dive into a completely different world from the comfort of a movie theater or couch.

“Sagittarius wants a beautifully written storyline that will make them think and feel beyond the ordinary of life. Sag wants to see a movie that will make an impact and allow them to reach into the far corners of their boundless thinking mind. They want to be ‘wowed,’” Furiate says. And with a director like Guillermo del Toro, that “wow” factor is surely present in Nightmare Alley.

Capricorn: Don’t Look Up

Don’t Look Up is a fantastic film for a Capricorn: It follows two low-level astronomers who must go on a media tour to warn humanity of an approaching comet that will destroy planet Earth.

“Capricorn prefers to watch a film that revolves around society and the corporate world,” Furiate tells Her Campus. “The film must be based on reality even if that entails power, control, and corporate greed.”

While Don’t Look Up is a more fantastical take on this idea, it still deals with very real issues like corporate America, climate change, and media politics. A must-watch for a Cap!

Aquarius: Dune

For a logical, imaginative Aquarius, a film that expands their creative mind and transports them to a new world is their best bet. And what better film than the smash success, Dune?

“Aquarius is all about science fiction,” Furiate says. “The deeper into the mind or space a film may travel will allow the Aquarian to reach into the endless depths of the universe.” Luckily, for this explorative sign, a Timothee Chalamet sci-fi epic that envelops them into the planet of Arrakis will be a surefire win!

Pisces: The Mitchells versus The Machines

Finally, for the dreamy and creative Pisces, animated films are always the perfect bet. The Mitchells versus The Machines is an imaginative, zany, animated adventure that will take Pisces on the journey they so desperately crave. Telling the story of a road trip gone wrong, this wholesome adventure flick is just quirky enough to satisfy a Pisces.

Also, as the resident softies of the Zodiac, Pisces may shy away from more graphic films. “Everyone in the film can live happily ever after. No one can really die in animation,” Furiate says.

With the Oscars coming in just a few weeks, now is the time to catch up on Hollywood’s must-watch films. However, if you only have time for a few, try checking out the ones that have been written in the stars for you already. Head to a movie theater, a friend’s couch, or your very own comfy bed and get ready for a movie night. You earned it!
