Spoiler alert: Spoilers for Season 1 of Sterling Point follow. Prime Video’s Sterling Point premiered on Aug. 5, and alongside all of the mystery and family drama, one of the storylines that had me flying through the episodes was the relationship between Oona (played by Bo Bragason) and Ramona (Amélie Hoeferle). The two women have a classic will-they-won’t-they situation happening, where both Oona and Ramona are nervous to potentially ruin their friendship by growing it into something more. They decide to take the leap, and end up sharing some sweet relationship moments throughout the season. Unfortunately, though, their coupling takes a turn for the worse at the end of the season, and they end up splitting. But will Oona and Ramona get back together in Season 2?
Viewers first get a glimpse of Oona and Ramona’s relationship dynamic when Ramona returns to Sterling Point after her grandfather’s death. It’s clear the two have a deep friendship, and Oona takes Ramona back in immediately despite Ramona ghosting the island for some time while she took care of her dying grandfather. Pretty early on, it’s clear that Ramona has feelings for Oona that go deeper than just friends, but she doesn’t believe she’s actually Oona’s type — which she describes to Annie as “straight, unavailable, hot, perfect, pretty, everything I’m not.” It doesn’t stay that way for long, though, and the pair ends up almost kissing on the dock during a party at the cottage.
Ramona truly starts to believe Oona might be reciprocating her feelings, and the pair decide to go to the outdoor movie in town together. But Oona begins to have cold feet about going with Ramona after her younger sister, Maple, tells Oona she’s leading Ramona on. After some time — and a truly hard-to-watch moment where Ramona gets drunk and calls Oona out at the outdoor movie — the pair decides that they can’t just be half-in, half-out, and they make their relationship official.
From there, Oona and Ramona are on a high, indulging in their fully-formed relationship and doing all the couple-y things together — like visiting Maple at camp, and taking things pretty far in the bedroom. But at the end of the season, it becomes clearer that each woman is on a different path after Ramona finds out that her biological dad is Annie’s adoptive dad, Steven.
Ramona mentions to Oona that she’s not closing the door on going to New York and having a relationship with her dad, which Oona doesn’t take kindly to. “I didn’t know that you’ve even considered maybe moving to New York,” Oona tells Ramona. “Five minutes ago you were so sure you wanted nothing to do with that man. You were so anti-that. You were talking about me moving in with you for the winter.” To hear that Ramona might have other plans is something Oona gets defensive about, and she isn’t convinced when Ramona says she would never move to New York and forget all about her. Ramona, on the other hand, is hurt at Oona’s lack of empathy about Ramona’s situation, and tells her she has mommy issues. “You just pushed me away as far as you could,” Oona then tells Ramona. “Now isn’t our time, and that’s OK.” The two break up, and Ramona leaves.
So, where will Oona and Ramona go from here? Will they get back together next season? It’s hard to know right now, considering how the first season ends. We last see Ramona waking up in Annie’s New York bed, confirming she’s decided to leave Sterling Point to explore a new city and have a relationship with her dad.
As of Aug. 5, Sterling Point hasn’t been renewed for a Season 2, so viewers don’t know where the story goes from here. However, if I were a betting girl, I’d say Ramona’s going to spend a bit of time in New York, so if she does get back together with Oona, it may not be for a while. Hopefully, Season 2 is announced soon, and we get more information on where Oona and Ramona stand. In the meantime, I’ll just be here rewatching all eight episodes of Season 1.
