Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli are co-stars of the new Prime Video college romance TV series Off Campus, which graced the platform with Season 1 on May 13. Despite being set in the current Gen Z era, Cameli (who plays Briar University hockey captain Garrett Graham) tells Bright (who plays star music student Hannah Wells) that he’s adamant on never conforming to the act of performing a TikTok dance. “I HATE doing TikTok dances, I hate it! And I don’t wanna do it,” Cameli tells Her Campus in an exclusive cast video with Bright.
Cameli further reiterates his point, saying, “I would rather score no goals and be a healthy scratch on a sh*tty hockey team than do a 30 [second] TikTok dance.” Coming together with Her Campus to play It’s A Deal, the two main characters of Off Campus sat down to give us their two cents on how they would navigate college grades, romances, and all the drama that comes in those four years — and we can totally relate.
As for some other It’s a Deal prompts, such as: “You get an A in your hardest class, but you have to spend every weekend in the library while your team is partying,” Cameli is quick to answer. “Forget it, I’ll get a B,” he laughs, with Bright laughing in agreement: “Haha, yeah, an A minus.” And you know what, I’d tend to agree — college is undoubtedly considered the best four years of your life, and when you’re young and having fun at university, you might as well live it up and make memories — as long as you’re not failing all your classes!
A funny deal that Bright took: “Your crush finally asks you out, but you can only wear a hockey jersey that’s way too big for the first date.” Her response? “This is like the game of Episode where you don’t have enough diamonds. Do you know that game?” Cameli doesn’t, but don’t worry, Ella, the girls can relate. I remember having to wear the ugliest outfits on my Episode dates because my parents would refuse to buy me diamonds. Bright goes on to say, “All of my clothing is oversized shirts, so actually, that’s completely a deal. That’s actually so fine with me.” Baggy and oversized wardrobe is totally the way to go — and if he doesn’t want you when you’re in a lazy fit, he isn’t the one, anyways!
Bright and Cameli gave us the realest takes when it comes to navigating college while simultaneously navigating romance, much of which I think we can all relate to. The show they star in also captures the true essence of navigating romance in college, and how those unexpected connections can turn into something real. After all, it’s all about experimenting!
