7 Up & Coming Female Musicians to Add to Your Playlist Immediately

There’s no question that once it’s safe again, concert ticket sales are going to skyrocket. But while we’re still stuck at home, what better way to pass the time than to dream up concerts about our favorite artists and discover new ones? If you’re anything like me and constantly looking for new music, you know that it can be so difficult to figure out who should be on your playlists. With so many artists and creators making content this quarantine, it can be difficult to keep up. But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! Here are seven up-and-coming female artists that you definitely need to add to your queue.

Amy Allen

Amy is a singer, songwriter, and producer from Maine who graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston. In just the past two years, Amy has exploded as a songwriter producing songs like “Back to You” with Selena Gomez, “Without Me” with Halsey, and “Adore You” with Harry Styles. This past year she was named a 2020 Variety Hitmaker and was featured in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in the music category. Leading up to a highly anticipated album, Amy already has four singles out now that you can listen to and stream on all platforms. “Difficult” is a total anthem perfect for a pump-up playlist.

Boys World

With the rise of girl bands, Boys World is guaranteed to be among the ranks of modern legends like Little Mix and Blackpink. In true social media fashion, these five teens started by just posting covers on their social channels. Then, KYN Entertainment reached out to them — via DM. Now, the girls are absolutely taking over TikTok (with 1M+ followers already!) and next, the world. Be sure to check out Boys World and add “Girlfriends” to your next playlist. You definitely won’t regret it.

Chloe x Halle

This iconic R&B sister duo were born to be stars. The two started out posting covers on YouTube and were noticed by queen Beyoncé herself. She then personally signed them to her own label and became their mentor. The girls have been in multiple movies and TV shows like Grown-ish and Black-ish, and Halle is set to star in the upcoming and highly anticipated live action The Little Mermaid. The two just released the music video for their title track “Ungodly Hour” last month that shook the internet. These young women have been on the radar since 2016, but they’re truly about to reach new heights. Don’t sleep on them.

Hartley is a rising Australian pop star on the cusp of global stardom. With just an EP, Hartley has accumulated two hit songs, “Mind” and “Used To” with over 400,000 streams on Spotify. She has been featured on numerous countries’ New Music Friday playlists, with the highest number Warner Music has ever seen for an Australian artist. As if this all wasn’t impressive enough, she’s a triple threat as a songwriter, singer, and producer of her own beats. You can watch all this in action in her “In My Room” series for Rolling Stone. Hartley is definitely an artist to keep your eyes — and ears — on. Her latest single “Underwater” is the perfect song for virtually any playlist.

India Shawn

India is an LA born and raised singer-songwriter with over 300,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and two hit tracks — one with Anderson .Paak and another with 6LACK. She’s been in the music scene for over 10 years and prior to her first EP, had already worked with some big names. In 2013, Solange Knowles featured one of India’s tracks on her Saint Heron compilation album. If India’s vocals sound familiar, it might be because she recently performed with Harry Styles for his Variety Hitmakers 2020 performance.

Olivia Rodrigo

If you spend any time at all on the internet, you’ve probably seen what a massive success Olivia’s single “Driver’s License” has been, especially since it’s now eight weeks and counting at number one. From an SNL skit to an emerging friendship with inspiration-come-mentor Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo is well on her way to being the budding pop star we all need right now. Keep on her Instagram for new song snippets, Taylor Swift jam sessions in her car, and surely BTS footage from season two of HSMTMTS.

Tramp Stamps

Can 2021 be the year we bring back pop punk? With Tramp Stamps, it looks like we’re well on our way there. These emo princesses already have over 200,000 followers on TikTok and their debut single “Sex With Me” has over 70,000 streams on Spotify. If you’re looking to regress back into your middle school phase but in a cool, feminist way — Tramp Stamps is the way to go.

With so many up-and-coming musicians, it’s exciting to think about what future shows, merch, and collaborations will look like. Hopefully these seven artists make it onto your next playlist and give you more exciting music to look forward to and discover.
