The Meaning Behind “MY HOUSE” Is Empowering AF

On Dec. 1, legendary singer Beyoncé released a surprise song to her fans, much to excitement. The song, titled “MY HOUSE”, appeared in the credits of her concert film Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé and it caught everyone by surprise. Coming off from a highly successful tour, along with her Renaissance album, this song release is one of the many reasons to keep the Beyhive buzzing.

The vibe of the song is very Afro-centric with chanting vocals, brassy hooks, and motivational lyrics. But what is “MY HOUSE” about? Turns out, the meaning of the song is super inspirational. Some of the lyrics in “MY HOUSE” can resonate with people who view themselves as “dream-catchers” and “go-getters.” Lyrically, “MY HOUSE” is about avoiding negativity and living life to the fullest. Doing what she does best, Beyoncé displays her confidence and attitude throughout the song.

In the first part of the song, she questions the haters who doubt her: “Who let my goons out that house? / Uh, huh, who?” Using the term “goons”, Queen Bey implies that the people who speak negatively of her will not damage her self-confidence or self-love.

The chorus dives more into the traditional style of BeyoncĂ©, where she reflects on her success and dreams. The lyrics, “When I grow up, I’m gon buy me a (House),” suggest that she had a desire to buy a house and have a successful career growing up. Additionally, the word “house” can also be a nod to her community of fans. She asserts her independence and growth as an artist, while she also acknowledges the fact that she loves her life the way that it is, with lyrics like “I’m done savin’ this money / Tonight we gon’ ball out” and “Who reppin like me?”

In the first verse of the song, Beyoncé sings one of my favorite lyrics of the song, ”Don’t make me get up out of my seat.” For me, this line could mean she’s not going to waste all of her time and energy worrying about the negativity that surrounds her and stand her ground — which I love about her.

Now, the bridge of “MY HOUSE” is probably the most meaningful part of the song. Lyrics like, “This is real love” and “Let love heal us all” bring the focus to healing, and loving oneself. The encouragement of this song focuses heavily on Beyoncé telling her listeners to stay motivated and focus on the positivity in their lives. Asserting both personal and societal views, anyone can take inspiration from this inspirational yet hard-hitting tune.

Honestly, this song can become anybody’s new hype song based on one listen. One thing about Beyoncé’s music is that no matter what mood you’re in, her songs can lift your spirits and feel good about yourself. The deep meaning behind this song can help guide anyone who is struggling with self-confidence or self-love at the moment. If this song can serve as inspiration, I would suggest replaying it and letting your true colors fly.
