The Morning Scroll: Harry Styles Might Play Prince Eric in Disney’s Live-Action ‘Little Mermaid’ & House Votes to Table Impeachment Articles Against Trump

Morning! While you were sleeping (or staying up to binge-watch Friends for the tenth time, or pulling an all-nighter in the library), a few things went down that you’ll probably want to know about. So grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and get scrolling.

Rumor Has It

With Halle Bailey cast as Ariel in “The Little Mermaid,” fans have been speculating who will be her prince will be. Now who could possibly fill the role of the dashing young Prince Eric? Why, Harry Styles, of course!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harry Styles in reportedly in early negotiations to play Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid.”

The film, which is being directed by Rob Marshall, is in the middle of casting.

Melissa McCarthy and Lizzo have both been rumored for the role of Ursula, the sea witch who gives Ariel legs in exchange for her beautiful voice in order for a chance to make Prince Eric love her, ABC News reports. Variety noted McCarthy joining the cast last month, but nothing has been formally announced.

Although, Lizzo did post a video of what looks like her open audition tape.

“I’M URSULA. PERIOD,” the singer tweeted to Disney.

Even actor Terry Crews sent a fun video, auditioning for the role of Ariel’s father, King Triton, or Ariel’s crab companion, Sebastian, singing “Under the Sea.”

But fans are definitely losing it with the news of Styles potentially being a part of the live-action remake.

“Harry Styles playing as Prince Eric is what we ALL deserve,” one fan wrote.

“If Harry Styles gets cast as prince eric i will literally audition to play a grain of sand,” another fan said.

While Prince Eric didn’t perform any songs in the 1989 animated original, the character does perform several numbers, including two solos, in the Broadway musical adaptation. So, if Prince Eric has musical numbers in the new live-action remake, Styles will definitely be an incredible choice.

Honestly, with all of this amazing talent potentially joining the cast for the “The Little Mermaid” live-action remake, we just have one question: can we be a part of this world?

News You Can Eat

One of the never-ending struggles at breakfast time is whether to have something sweet or savory to start off the day. Luckily for us, McDonald’s is giving us the best of both worlds, as they are reportedly testing out three different Blueberry McGriddles breakfast sandwiches!

The McGriddles in test mode include the Sausage, Egg and Cheese Blueberry McGriddle sandwich, which has sausage, egg and melted American cheese sandwiched between two blueberry griddle cakes with the classic McDonald’s “M” etched on top, Delish reports.

If bacon is your breakfast protein of choice, then you’ll be happy to know there’s a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Blueberry McGriddle sandwich, too. The breakfast sandwich still has egg, melted cheese and blueberry griddle cakes, but bacon will substitute for the sausage. And for those that like to keep breakfast simple, there is also the Sausage Blueberry McGriddles sandwich, which has just sausage and blueberry griddle cakes.

“The flavors from the real blueberries balanced with the sweet taste of maple, reminds me of the blueberry pancakes my mother used to make for us growing up. Imagine that combined with your choice of sizzling breakfast sausage or thick cut bacon nestled under a creamy slice of American cheese and fluffy egg,” Carol Martino, Culinary Innovation Spokesperson for McDonald’s USA, said in a press release.

The culinary innovation team at McDonald’s created this new line of McGriddle sandwiches as a response to customer feedback that they wanted a more “craveable” breakfast option.

“Our customers have told us they are looking for a more craveable breakfast option on the go, so we listened. McDonald’s is always looking for ways to innovate, and the Blueberry McGriddles breakfast sandwich is the newest way to indulge in sweet and savory brunch flavors while sticking to your weekday morning routine,” McDonald’s press release states.

However, according to Bustle, the three new breakfast McGriddles are only being tested in Washington D.C. Also, they’ll only be available at participating locations for a limited time, and only during breakfast hours. Hey, we don’t make the rules.

There’s no official word on whether the Blueberry McGriddles will make an appearance on McDonald’s menus in other cities once the test is over, but here’s to hoping that the test goes ~berry~ well, because we definitely want a Blueberry McGriddle for breakfast.

Then This Happened

The House of Representatives voted to table a resolution to impeach President Donald Trump on Wednesday, effectively killing the measure for now.

Democratic Rep. Al Green of Texas offered the resolution in response to Trump’s recent Twitter attacks against four Democratic congresswomen, in which he said for the female lawmakers to “go back” to their countries of origin.

“Donald John Trump has, by his statements, brought the high office of the President of the United States in contempt, ridicule, disgrace and disrepute; has sown discord among the people of the United States; has demonstrated that he is unfit to be President; and has betrayed his trust as President of the United States to the manifest injury of the people of the United States; and has committed a high misdemeanor in office,” Green said while introducing the impeachment articles on the floor of the House on Tuesday.

The House voted 332 to 95 Wednesday to set aside the resolution, Reuters reports.

A new high of 95 lawmakers ― all Democrats ― voted against tabling the resolution, which is up from the 66 lawmakers who voted against tabling a resolution in January 2018, HuffPost reports.

But the resolution was not welcomed by Democratic leadership, which has been trying to avoid the topic of impeachment.

Since the Justice Department released special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, Democrats have been split on whether or not to launch an impeachment inquiry against the president. According to HuffPost, the report noted 10 potential instances where Trump could have obstructed justice and explained that the only constitutional way to deal with a president breaking the law is through Congress’ impeachment power.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), however, has led the opposition against impeachment as more members of the Democratic caucus have called to impeach Trump.

While Pelosi has stated that Trump “engaged in a criminal cover-up,” she has come to the conclusion that his alleged crimes do not merit a formal impeachment inquiry. Instead, Pelosi has claimed that the president is “self-impeaching.”

During a news conference prior to the House’s vote on Green’s impeachment resolution, Pelosi explained her position against launching an impeachment inquiry, remarking, “We have six committees that are working on following the facts in terms of any abuse of power, obstruction of justice, and the rest that the president may have engaged in.”
