Are you Team Edward or Team Jacob? Whether you’re a Twilighter or not, you have probably been asked this a bunch of times, as it is one of the most well-known debates of the last fifteen years. Recently, even Kristen Stewart, who played Bella Swan in Twilight, has been faced with the question. While there are seemingly endless points to be made for both sides, fans have been left wondering which team Kristen Stewart is on — until now.
In case you’re not a Twilighter, the debate stems from a love triangle in Twilight between the human Bella Swan, vampire Edward Cullen, and werewolf Jacob Black. Throughout the four movies, both men try to win her over, a fight that is fueled by an already existing hatred between vampires and werewolves, as Bella struggles to choose until later in the series, when she finally chooses Edward. Despite this, Jacob stays in love with Bella until imprinting (a magical process where a werewolf finds his absolute soulmate) on her and Edward’s newborn daughter, Renesmee. The controversy around this choice usually fuels the already heated debate.
In an interview with Condé Nast Traveler, Stewart and Alia Shawkat play a game where they try to remember the filming locations for movies they have been in. After correctly guessing the filming location of Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part One, she is asked where she actually lands now on the Team Edward or Team Jacob debate. After a joke from Shawkat about Stewart being “Team Chachaça,” a popular drink at the Breaking Dawn filming location, Stewart says, “That’s such an amorphous idea to me. Imagine if I had an answer to that ready. Like imagine if I was like ‘I really have thought about this and I have fallen on the side of…’ I don’t give a f*ck.”
While this is likely not the answer anyone hoped for, fans have come out in support of her answer. Many have said the silly question should not have even been asked. Under the clip posted by the Condé Nast Traveler Instagram account, one commenter wrote, “Dude. Here’s an idea… ask questions about the movie she’s promoting.” Another commented, “Now maybe people can, I don’t know… stop asking her about preferences from a role she had YEARS AGO.”
Others have put the response in a sillier context. One comment under a complexpop post about the clip says, “She’s probably Team Alice… I would be too.” Since Stewart came out as a lesbian after filming the movies, many have agreed with this “Team Alice” take, and the possibility that it’s the reason for her indifferent answer.
Regardless of your stance on the debate, I think it is safe to say that Stewart and likely the rest of the cast are a bit tired of being asked the question. I, on the other hand, in case you were wondering, will always fight for Team Edward.
