Uh… Why Did Keke Palmer’s Boyfriend Subtweet Her Outfit Choice?

Keke Palmer is a multi-hyphenate queen who can do no wrong, and when it comes to defending her, the internet will fight to the end. So, when her boyfriend and father of her child, Darius Jackson, decided to publicly shame Palmer on the internet on July 5 after she attended an Usher concert, fans were not letting him down easily. Here is everything you need to know, from Jackson’s bold tweets to what fans had to say.

Jackson had some things to say on Twitter about Palmer’s Usher concert outfit.

On July 5, Palmer attended Usher’s residency show in Vegas. A video that surfaced of her being serenaded by Usher at the show while wearing a sheer dress with a bodysuit garnered some reactions, the strongest one being from her own boyfriend, Darius Jackson. He quoted a tweet with the video, “It’s the outfit tho… you a mom.” He was essentially subtweeting his own girlfriend — who is the Keke Palmer, might I add. Her Campus reached out to both Palmer’s and Jackson’s teams for comment, but did not hear back at the time of publication.

That wasn’t the end of it, unfortunately. After getting backlash for his first comment, Jackson then went on to defensively tweet, “We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is. This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals to what I believe. I rest my case.” The tweets have since been deleted, but fans have spread the screenshots on Twitter and TikTok.

The internet had strong reactions to Jackson’s comments.

Fans are coming for Jackson for the misogynistic undertones of his tweets and for shaming the mother of his child publicly. They came to Twitter to argue that Palmer deserves better and show their support for the star.

Fans think Jackson’s tweets had some repercussions for the couple.

Following the messiness surrounding Jackson’s tweets, fans were keeping a close eye on the couple. Some fans noticed that Palmer and Jackson were no longer following each other on Instagram, assuming that they unfollowed each other after the Twitter rant but that has yet to be confirmed. (Jackson’s Instagram and Twitter accounts, both @dvulton, also appear to have since been deactivated.) Palmer hasn’t commented on her boyfriend’s comments, but she did go on Instagram following the concert to show off her outfit and her support for Usher.

The last the internet heard from Jackson was in a final tweet that said: “Last tweet of the day for sure. That’s for real ones to understand.”

Palmer and Jackson welcomed their baby boy in February after two years of dating. And just recently on July 4, Palmer tweeted, “Not tryna be that person but…I love my man (PERIODT!).” Though this might just seem like internet drama, a loving relationship is involved, so all fans can do in the meantime is root for Palmer’s happiness.
