Jay-Z Called Out The Grammys For Never Awarding Beyoncé Album Of The Year

Things are getting heated (wink) at the 2024 Grammys. In Jay-Z’s acceptance speech for the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, he called out the recording academy for something that shocked a lot of people. He said that some people do not belong in the categories, but he also called out the academy for never awarding Beyoncé the Album Of The Year Award. While I agree with him, a lot of people think saying this during his speech was not the move.

Jay-Z was awarded the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, and he accepted the speech with his daughter Blue Ivy by his side, and Beyoncé in the audience. He said many things in the speech, but the most notable (and head-turning), was that he directly called out the academy for not awarding Beyoncé with AOTY, and TBH, he’s right. It was just executed poorly, according to the internet.

In 2023, Beyoncé made history becoming the most awarded Grammy winner, currently holding 32 awards. Her win for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album for her 2022 album Renaissance made her the most awarded Grammy winner in history, and she still holds this title. Despite this, she has never won the award for Album Of The Year, something that Jay-Z clearly is not happy with.

Fans quickly shared their reactions on X/Twitter, and TBH, they are so funny.

Beyoncé also didn’t seem too happy about the comment.

Beyoncé is an icon, and she does deserve to get AOTY. It will happen eventually, but maybe not for a while after that comment from Jay-Z.
