Spoiler alert: Spoilers for Episodes 1 and 2 of AMC+’s Yaga and Kat Sandler’s Yaga play follow. The first two episodes of Yaga, starring Hudson Williams alongside Noah Reid and Clark Backo, have been released on AMC+ and Crave β and let me tell you, I am sat. The series is based on a comedic thriller play written by Kat Sandler, who also serves as executive producer and showrunner of the eight-episode show. But if you haven’t seen or read Sandler’s play (which has loose ties to Slavic folklore about Baba Yaga), you may be wondering what the deal is with Hudson Williams’s character… or, should I say, characters. Williams plays two roles: Logan Casey and Henry Park. The men, who look eerily alike, are roommates and best friends β that is, until Henry goes missing.
Henry is the wealthy son of a fishing empire in a small, coastal town in Canada. He’s living in a mega-mansion with his roommate, Logan, who looks nearly identical to Henry. The series starts off with Henry’s disappearance, introducing Williams first as the roommate, Logan, as they work to put together clues about where Henry could be. The investigator (Rapp, played by Reid) and detective (Carson, played by Backo) assigned to figure out Henry’s case notice Logan and Henry’s similar faces almost immediately. So, are the two men separate people? Or did something ominous happen, and Logan is actually Henry?
There’s one thing we know for sure. Throughout the first two episodes, which dropped on Oct. 23, it is made clear that Logan and Henry are two separate people, and they both are definitely friends and roommates. They met in school, and hit it off when they realized how much they looked alike. We know this because multiple characters we meet along the way β including Henry’s ex, Pam β are aware of both men. This isn’t a situation where Henry wanted a new life for himself, so he “went missing,” and a lookalike newly rolled into town. Henry and Logan, it seems, have been seen in the same room together before Henry’s disappearance.
But there’s still a larger question at hand that hasn’t been answered. Is it possible Logan β who is at home having drug-fueled parties despite his roommate’s disappearance β is actually the missing one, and Henry is pretending to be Logan? And if that’s the case… who was the person viewers saw dead at the end of Episode 2?
Unfortunately, we don’t know the answer to these questions just yet. After all, Henry’s roommate is a brand new character to the Yaga world β Logan wasn’t a character in Sandler’s initial play. So for those fans looking for spoilers based on the original work, you’re out of luck there, too.
It looks like we all have to wait for the next episode to get some answers. Episode 3 of Yaga premieres on AMC+ and Crave on Oct. 30.
