How To Use Spotify’s Reserved Feature To Actually Get Concert Tickets

Finding out one of your favorite artists is going on tour is a really exciting feeling. Planning outfits, buying merch, and listening to all their music on the way home from the show is a top-tier experience. But, depending on what artist you’re trying to see, trying to get tickets has started to feel less like a fun experience and more like heading into battle. Fighting for a place in the Ticketmaster presale line is rough — and don’t even think about attempting to score some resale tix, unless you want to pay at least triple the original cost. I, for one, am still recovering from the Eras Tour ticket trenches.

But going to a concert shouldn’t be something you can only experience if you’re rolling in dough or have the right connections. Thankfully, Spotify is hoping to help make concert tickets more accessible with a new way for die-hard fans to get tickets first. Here’s everything we know about Spotify Reserved, and how it might work in your favor.

Spotify announced Reserved in a press release on May 21. “With Reserved, Spotify will identify an artist’s most dedicated fans and hold two tour tickets for them,” the brand’s press release said. “No racing against thousands of other fans, no hunting for codes, just a reserved window to purchase before tickets are on sale to the general public. You show up for the artist, Spotify shows up for you.”

Here’s how it works: Spotify will identify “real fans” based on streams, shares, and other Spotify activity. All fans have to do is have a Premium membership on Spotify set their preferred concert location in the app, and ensure notifications are turned on in the Live Events Feed. From there, based on your engagement with a given artist and location of the concert, you may get a notification from Spotify Reserved that you can buy two tickets, within a certain window of time, through a third-party seller like Ticketmaster. If you get this offer from Reserved, you can buy tickets for any show on the artist’s tour and you’ll choose your date, location, and seats at checkout. But, if there isn’t a concert date in your area, it’s possible you won’t receive an offer.

Spotify’s Reserved feature offers are only available to Premium members 18 and over. So, set those notifications and you may just be one of the lucky fans to get tickets to see your favorite artist — without feeling like you’ve been to war.
