Spoiler alert: Spoilers for XO, Kitty Season 3 follow. From the return of Lara Jean to a visit from Q’s past lover, Season 3 of XO, Kitty is full of reunions. And of course, a new season inevitably means new characters, so allow me to introduce one to you: Gigi. She’s got a past with Min Ho, which we need to talk about.
Min Ho’s childhood love, Gigi (played by Christine Heesun Hwang), returns to KISS as an assistant to fashion designer Yisoo. With the help of Gigi, the fictional luxury fashion brand decides to give Min Ho a second chance after a scandal involving Kitty, and provides the costumes for Eunice’s debut music video. Considering Gigi becomes pretty engrained in the XO, Kitty universe, let’s take a closer look at her story.
After taking a semester off from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, Gigi is back in Seoul to pursue her job with Yisoo – a career Min Ho is obviously impressed with. The fashion icon is established as a confident, cool girl, and Min Ho’s admiration of her (and their history) can’t be ignored.Â
From the minute Gigi walks into the senior lounge, Kitty is immediately intimidated. Min Ho, on the other hand, is elated by the return of his longtime “family friend,” which is what he introduces Gigi as to Kitty. After reminiscing on their childhood delinquency and revisiting old memories, the group splits and gets on with their days. Marius, clouded by his own mission to win back Q, purposely makes Kitty feel insecure. He informs her that they were more than just “family friends,” but actually first loves. Kitty instantly becomes concerned about the possibility of a rekindling between the past lovers, and worries how it could compare to her newly blossomed relationship.Â
In classic Covey style, Kitty’s insecurities make her act out in a series of embarrassments, pushing Min Ho away. She tries way too hard to be helpful at Eunice’s music video shoot, and accidentally highlights her uselessness in the situation, along with her underlying jealousy of Gigi.Â
Eventually, Min Ho proves to Kitty he has no feelings for Gigi and she needs to trust him. Gigi turns out to be a well-liked character, and even helps Yuri get the job as Yisoo’s second assistant to continue navigating the fashion world.Â
Yuri is just as grateful to Gigi as Christine Heesun Hwang is to her character, and the opportunity to join the XO, Kitty cast. “To spend this summer working alongside a korean and american crew was not how i envisioned my year,” she said on Instagram. “How incredibly grateful i am for the opportunity and experience, for my first time in korea to be working on a set like this one. thank you to the entire production of XO, Kitty for allowing me to step in and be a small part of it. These memories and friendships are hard pressed into me for the rest of my life. And i hope you all will enjoy my girl Gigi as much as i did!”
