The internet is no stranger to putting people into categories, and lately, men have gotten a lot of the attention. You have your golden retriever boyfriend, the zaddy, the soft boi, and even the rodent. It’s subtle, but it seems that there has been a shift to a new archetype the internet is obsessed with: the hot weirdo.
The hot weirdo is exactly as it sounds — but, like, not in a mean way. There is no shame in being a weirdo, especially since being “weird” is often seen as having fun, having a quirky personality, and being yourself (which are all good things.) There’s no surprise that this phenomenon may have originated from TikTok. In 2026, a trend began of people sharing quicks and fun moments of their partners with captions along the lines of, “this is why you marry the weird guy/girl.” After this trend took off, people started looking at others differently, especially at celebrities.
If you’ve been online recently, you’ve probably seen a male celebrity interview or interaction caught on camera and thought, “he’s odd but I love that for him.” And if so, congratulations: You’ve found a hot weirdo. Don’t be shy, come join the club!
So which male celebrities would be considered hot weirdos? Robert Pattinson immediately comes to mind. Everyone’s favorite “Gen Z” actor (IYKYK) has been seriously enjoying the limelight in 2026 (and as he should!). With Pattinson starring in The Drama, The Odyssey, and the upcoming Primetime and Dune: Part Three, the internet has seen a fair bit of him lately. After all, with movies come press tours and interviews. And with all this he’s been showing off his… well, quirks, in the process.
Pattinson has been a tad unpredictable when it comes to interviews. He’s chaotic, vibrant, and unapologetically himself with his “who cares” attitude. He’s even been known to get away with a white-lie, or a few… dozen. At the end of the day, this man has been trying to escape the Twilight bubble, let him be weird!
Another excellent example of a hot weirdo is KJ Apa. This handsome New Zealand actor is no stranger to being bizarre. Apa starred in the teen TV series Riverdale for its entirety. (If you never saw the show, or stopped watching part-way through, I beg you to watch the full thing.) Apa is also the mastermind behind his alter ego singer, Mr. Fantasy. It’s the “actor by day and musician by night” trope, and I am all here for it. Why Apa decided to create a funk-rock alter ego, the world may never know. It’s the wig that really gets me; it’s weird, and I love it!
Joe Jonas is a more unassuming hot weirdo. For the longest time, it seemed like Jonas was another cute heartthrob singer (thank you, Disney training) but in recent years he’s hung up the squeaky-clean image and showed the more self-deprecating side of himself. He has truly gotten the hang of iconic, but slightly cringey TikTok videos. Trends, transitions, and slight TMI are the secret ingredients to Jonas’s internet personality. I guess it’s the trade-off for breaking up with Taylor Swift over the phone.
Although Timothée Chalamet was initially seen as a classic hot rodent boyfriend, with the hot weirdo poking through. There seems to be a venn diagram of hot rodent and hot weirdo, and it’s no surprise that Chalamet is sitting right in the middle, next to Sombr. That’s what being a theatre kid will do to you! Chalamet is clearly not afraid of having fun and doing things he wants to do. If you’re still hesitant about the title, please watch his Saturday Night Live episodes. Not to mention, with Dune: Part Three coming out in the next few months, the world will be sure to see Chalamet’s quirkiness in upcoming interviews.
