The ‘Harry Potter’ TV Series Cast Has Fans Divided

Even though it’s been over 20 years since the first installment of the Harry Potter franchise was released in theaters, the wizarding world is still a staple in entertainment culture. With a new land opening at Universal Studios and fans obsessing over the books on TikTok, the franchise has continued to grow rapidly these last few years. Plus, fans have been awaiting any type of news on the recently-announced HBO series, though many are proceeding with caution. With the Harry Potter TV series set to begin filming this summer, the April 14 casting announcement has been a talking point online. 

As the adults of Hogwarts have officially been cast, many are voicing their concerns over which actors will be joining this new iteration of Harry Potter. The casting announcement has the internet divided on the series thus far.

6 Harry Potter Series cast members have been announced.

On April 14, the first six cast members of the HBO Harry Potter TV series were announced online. The six confirmed cast members entering the world of Harry Potter include John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. While there still has yet to be an official announcement on who will be playing the students of Hogwarts, this casting announcement has taken over social media, with fans voicing their thoughts on the new era of Harry Potter

When will the harry potter series be released?

While only this April 14 casting announcement has been officially made, the series is rumored to begin filming in Summer 2025. The series is set to debut in 2026, with each season following the book series. It’s been confirmed that over 32,000 children based in the UK and Ireland have auditioned for the lead roles of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, signaling that a casting announcement may be coming soon.

It may take over a year for more information about the Harry Potter TV show to be released before it debuts on HBO, but it’s safe to say that some fans are not happy with the recent casting of the series, and are watching out for what’s next in this new iteration of the wizarding world.
