Since Universal Pictures and Focus Features announced that they had won screen rights to the first installment of of the Fifty Shades series by E.L. James, which got its start as “Twilight” fan fiction in which the title characters were named after Bella Swann and Edward Cullen, a handful of hollywood hard-hitters have expressed interest in the project.

This weekend, rumors that Angelina Jolie is vying for a chance to direct the flick spread across the websphere like wildfire. While Angie may not be taking the reins of the much-anticipated film adaptation and casting is still up in the air with the names of every young actor and actress in Hollywood, from Amanda Seyfried to Alexander Skarsgard, being offered up for the leading roles, one thing is for certain – hollywood has caught the “Fifty Shades” fever.

Check out what stars have been saying about the steamy novel, which outlines the sadomasochistic sexcapades of collegiette Anastasia Steele and billionair bad boy Christian Grey:

“I just think more men should be reading it. I’m just saying.” – “Rock of Ages” star Julianne Hough, after choosing “Fifty Shades” over “The Hunger Games,” to MTV News

“A little bit, yeah, there’s blushing.” – “Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder, on whether or not sex scenes in the book left him flushed, to MTV News. He also pointed out that he had one crucial skill that could help his chances of landing the role of Christian Grey: “By the virtue of playing Damon for now a few years, [he’s] 170 plus years old, in love with an 18 year old, I officially have a lot of experience seducing younger women. I’m just saying.”

“Where do I sign? He’s got a sex chamber? My character [Eric Northman] has that on ‘True Blood.’ He’s got his little dungeon. I was born to play that part.” – Alexander Skarsgard, after reporters filled him in on Grey’s particulars

“I’ve read every book. I want to play Anastasia.” – Ashley Benson, to Celebuzz

“Reading 50 shades of grey next to the oldest dude ever. #awkward.” – Miley Cyrus, on Twitter

So, collegiettes. What do you think of “Fifty Shades of Grey”?

This summer she'll be interning at Us Weekly and living the dream in New York City. Her idea of a good time is take-out chinese food, working on her novel series and rocking out to either Coldplay or Kanye West. After college she hopes to land a job writing at an entertainment magazine where she can make a living off of consuming absurd quantities of pop culture and then blabbing about it for the enjoyment of others.
