Becky G Opens Up About Her Mental Health In Emotional Tweets: “It’s Okay Not To Be Okay”

While it’s easy for celebrities — or anyone, actually — to only highlight the best parts of their lives on social media, Becky G is keeping things real with her fans. The singer and actress took to Twitter late Sunday night to share what she was going through.

“Sitting on the bathroom floor in my hotel room… out of no where I start to hear Pedro Infante classics through the air vent distant but so clear… I laid down & just felt the need to cry it out…” she tweeted, followed up by, “Reminds me of when I was a little girl and my grandma would what the old black & white movies…”

Becky continued, “Sometimes I feel like the 8 year old little girl in me comes out when the grown up me gets tired of pretending she’s strong, independent & okay all the time. I’ve grown so much in the last year of my life.. I wouldn’t change a thing..”

She added that she was already feeling down — as she usually does when she’s on the bathroom floor of a hotel — but “hearing that music felt like a sign to just let it all out.”

“Like that pat on the shoulder of, That it’s okay not to be okay…” Becky tweeted.

Becky’s final tweet was a great reminder that nobody’s perfect.

“I know I don’t need to share all of this on social media… But with the pressures from society these days to be so ‘perfect’ I feel the need to share very few of my vulnerable moments,” she posted. “Hopefully I can help someone else who might feel the same way not feel so alone.”

Becky made another personal revelation just a few days ago while praising Demi Lovato for getting help after an alleged overdose and years of struggling with addiction. “It’s something super personal and what I can say is that I’m happy that she’s on the right path to recovery. And the truth is, recovery is never over for someone who’s going through what she’s going through,” Becky told Entertainment Tonight. “Not a lot of people know this, but it’s something really close to my heart because I have a family member who suffers from the same thing, and I say ‘suffer’ because it really affects them and it affects everyone around them.”

Lovato has always been open about her struggles, which Becky said she admires. “It’s a sad thing,” she said. “When you can overcome something [like that], and not only that, but share it in front of the world, because that’s another thing that I applaud her for and I’ve always admired about her. She’s so real.”

Becky added that she’s praying for Lovato. “I think about it on a daily basis because I’m going through it myself.”
