If there’s one thing I didn’t see coming about this season of Love Island USA, it’s that Bryce and Trinity’s connection would have me screaming, giggling, and tearing up in the same breath — and I know I’m not the only one. What started as a platonic connection quickly turned into one of the strongest connections in Love Island history (dare I say), throwing fans into an absolute frenzy. But there’s a reason fans fell in love with the couple so quickly, and it’s not because they simply give each other the same energy: it’s because they embody the invisible string theory. Spoiler alert: Spoilers for Love Island USA Season 8 ahead.
To catch you up, Bryce and Trinity were recently split up during Casa Amor to explore other potential connections. In their time apart, the two’s parallels to one another were undeniable. Fans dissected almost all of their interactions and found that the two were completely in sync with one another despite their distance. (I mean, the two unknowingly wore the same shade of yellow for goodness sake.)
The invisible string theory, which was popularized by Taylor Swift’s song “Invisible String”, essentially means being tied to someone by an unseen force (hence, the string) that eventually pulls you together. This could mean accidentally crossing paths with someone before officially meeting, finding out you frequent the same places (i.e., coffee shops, markets, parks), sharing obscure hobbies, and even wearing the same clothes without planning it.
It basically takes the idea of coincidences and turns it into something more meaningful. Think, a soul tie. You have such a deep mental connection that they aren’t really coincidences anymore and instead become evidence of fate. Now, I don’t know about you, but I can think of quite a few of these moments between Trinity and Bryce — and fans have, too.
- They both starred in Tubi originals.
-
Bryce and Trinity’s connection goes beyond the villa, as they have both acted in two separate Tubi movies in the past. Of course, this makes them both hilarious and iconic, but it’s also so random that it’s hard to write off as a coincidence.
According to Love Island sleuths, Bryce starred in the 2022 flick Alabama Rose, and Trinity in the 2021 horror Confess. I mean, let’s just get them in their own rom-com at this point.
- They both wore construction costumes during the heart race challenge.
-
Aside from their acting hobbies, the two have shared many invisible string moments during their time on the show, too. One of the first was when they both showed up for the heart race challenge in the same construction outfit — something no couple on Love Island has done before. I mean, sure, it’s a coincidence they decided to put on the same costume. But, as Bryce said, their brains are just in sync — and this is proof.
- They both cried for each other during confessionals.
-
If there was one moment that Love Island fans realized how deep Trinity and Bryce’s connection was, it was definitely when they both cried over how much they missed each other in their Casa Amor confessionals (again, something no Love Island couple has done before).
They were both quick to realize they weren’t going to explore anyone else because of their strong feelings for one another and, of course, were pretty vocal about it. While Bryce was over in Casa telling Sincere “these girls are all beautiful, they all have their own things, but it’s not her,” Trinity was in the villa telling Corey “I have a connection with some of these guys, but they’re not who I want.” (Geeking over this.)
- They both wore yellow during the recoupling.
-
Much like their accidental matching during the heart race challenge, the two wore the exact same shade of yellow as they reunited after not seeing each other during Casa Amor. I mean, you seriously would have thought they planned these outfits coming into the villa in the first place.
- They have the same 2016 aesthetic.
-
Aside from the matching outfits, the two share the same aesthetic in general. While Bryce was a Tumblr it boy, Trinity has, on more than one occasion, worn 2016-coded outfits during the show, including the popular Triangl bikini that had Tumblr in a chokehold in 2016. Again, oddly specific, but for some reason it just makes sense.
It’s not just these invisible strings that have fans in an absolute chokehold over this couple. The yearning, the parallels, and their sweet-but-silly dynamic radiate in the villa and even through our screens. The two only seem to get each other’s jokes and praise each other in their absences. Like, seriously, I have never screamed over a Love Island couple as much as these two (including Serena and Kordell).
So, if you didn’t know what the invisible string theory was, you sure do now. Bryce and Trinity will be living rent-free in my head until further notice.
