Book-to-screen adaptations are having their moment this year, and it’s fair to say they’ve dominated the screens in 2026 so far. After a successful summer of movie adaptations like The Odyssey and Prime Video’s Off Campus, it seems like any Fall 2026 book-to-screen adaptations will have a tough time trying to compare. But in reality, the book-to-screen adaptations for the year have only just begun.
So far this year, we’ve seen major book-to-movie adaptations including Project Hail Mary, the previously mentioned film The Odyssey, and Wuthering Heights. These three chosen films highlight how diverse the genres have been and continue to be. From sci-fi to historical drama to a classic romantic tragedy, one thing is true: these book adaptations are bringing in people with all kinds of interests.
It hasn’t just been movies boosting viewership, but streamable TV adaptations. Aside from the obvious love for Off Campus, Apple TV’s adaptation of Margo’s Got Money Troubles (with Elle Fanning as Margo) earned a remarkable 96% Rotten Tomatoes score.
With so many amazing releases to choose from, I could talk about past book-to-screen adaptations all day, but with Sept. 22 marking the first day of the fall season, there are too many upcoming launches to linger there. Saving the best (romance) for last, here are seven upcoming book-to-screen adaptations to look forward to this autumn.

Coming to theaters Oct. 2, this movie is based on a novel by Colleen Hoover, and the popularity of this book has made for some serious anticipation for the movie. Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett were cast as the main characters, adding further excitement amongst fans.

@Universal Pictures via Youtube This upcoming film is adapted from Josh Malerman’s 2024 novel Incidents Around the House. This bestselling book can best be described as supernatural horror, and if you see Jessica Chastain in the trailer, then you’ll understand why. It’s in theaters Oct. 9.

Based on the iconic Stephen King novel, Amazon Prime Video is having a go at the drama and horror genres. Created by Mike Flanagan, the trailer gives the impression that this will be even scarier than the previous adaptations of Carrie. This eight-episode season will be available to stream on Oct. 7.
- Sense and Sensibility

Based on the classic Jane Austen novel, Sense and Sensibility follows three sisters as they navigate life and love. The period piece centering around drama and romance stars the beloved Daisy Edgar-Jones, and will be released in the United States on Oct. 16.
