7 Campus Cuties Who Studied Abroad (Or Want To!)

Name: Alejandro Arroyo
School: Villanova
Class: 2014
Hometown: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Major: International business and finance
Relationship status: Single

What’s your most memorable experience at Villanova?
Going to London or Seville, Spain

Not many people study abroad in two places. What made you study there?
Well, my father’s from Mexico City and I’ve always wanted to travel internationally. I came to Villanova because it allowed me to study in London in the spring of my freshman year, which helped further my career. Once I was there, I fell in love with the European culture and visited Madrid and knew I had to go back to Spain. So, in junior year, I elected to study there as my study abroad.

What do you look for in a girl?
Emotionally I look for someone I could bring home to my mom and someone I could have a good conversation with. If she’s outgoing instead of shy, that’s preferable because I’d like to have fun with her if I go to a bar or a club. I really like girls who have an edge to their personality too.

As far as looks go, my ideal type would be a tan brunette with hazel or blue eyes that’s slightly smaller than I am.

What’s your idea of a perfect date?
On a nice day, I’d take her to this spot I know by the Schuylkill River. I’d probably bring food and some wine and we could eat and get to know each other.

Turn on?
Beautiful eyes and someone who won’t be afraid to give me a hard time and tease me.

Turn off?
Being too clingy and having too much of a personality. If she comes on too strong or will make fun of me without actually knowing me, that’s not attractive.

Name: Drew Klingner
School: Duke

Where are you from?
I am from the northwest side of Chicago and have lived there my whole life.

What are you majoring in at Duke?
I am double majoring in Theater Studies and Public Policy.

What year are you?
I’m a sophomore.

Tell me a bit about Me Too Monologues- how was it working with the cast? What did you learn about yourself/what did you learn?
Working with the cast was phenomenal, because each cast member felt such an urgency to do his or her monologue justice. The energy during rehearsals was great, and everyone was super excited to help out. If I learned one thing from the Me Too Monologues it was that you are not alone in your problems. There is inevitably someone on Duke’s campus that shares your emotions and experiences. I guess the thing I learned about myself is that I have a lot of fun putting myself out there and not holding back in performances.

What’s your favorite memory so far from your years at Duke?
My favorite Duke memory was performing with Rhythm and Blue at the Freshman Orientation A Cappella Concert this year. The crowd was enormous and extremely energetic! Singing in that concert was such a rush!

Are you studying abroad? If so, where and why?
Im doing the Duke in London Drama Program this summer, because we will see over 30 plays and musicals while we are there, and learn from some of the best actors in London. In the fall, I’ll be attending the Duke in New York: Arts and Media program in order to get a head start in NYC and experience all that the city has to offer. I’m looking into getting an internship on Broadway.

What’s your favorite dessert?
Anything with chocolate :)

Describe your perfect first date: One that begins on January 1st of a new year. At 7AM starts with a 15 mile run that ends by 8:15AM (5 minute mile pace). The date then hits the dance studio for a quick 2 hour dance lesson. Shortly after the date goes to breakfast at a local diner. Then, goes to the airport to catch a flight to Peru. Arriving in Peru at around 7-8pm, we do a quick jog and hike up Machu Picchu by foot. At the top, we take a quick photo and then fly back this time on broomsticks — home. The day is over before we know it!

Do you have a dream job? PhD in Dance = > Doctor Dance.

Most embarrassing moment?
I arrived to the Lima airport for the last time In December, returning home after a wonderful study abroad experience. Anxious and ready to take my flight home, I was so excited that I kept imagining myself reuniting with family and friends. At 10pm I decided to finally go through airport security. When I approached the gate, I removed my belt, shoes, hat and put everything in a bin to go through the scanner. When I walked through security, I saw that my bag was being searched. As I ran over to see what was going on, a gift I had purchased earlier in Peru was revealed to everyone! This gift, for a close friend – I tell you – was titled “The Huge Penis Book”. With the penis that covered the entirety of the book, haunting me, I felt the need to say to the officer searching my things, ”That’s for a friend…!” The man nodded and continued to look through my bag until he found a small pair of scissors in my first aid kit. He said “You can’t travel with these”. I nodded, grabbed my things stuffed the book back in my bag and said – “Gracias.”

What is your most treasured possession? My 11 nieces/nephews.

If your life were a movie, which celebrity would play you and why?
If my life were a movie, Natalie Portman would play me. Her riveting performance and dedication to dance in Black Swan was not only inspiring but, quite frankly, crazy. However, she might have to shave her head one more time.

If you had one superpower what would it be and why?
Psychometry. This would lend itself to some pretty amazing discoveries.

How do you feel about being this week’s Campus Cutie?
It’s been a blast–I only hope I’ve done my best following those other cuties before me.

Major: Political Science and Spanish
Hometown: Beaverton, Oregon

Describe yourself in a tweet:
I would describe myself as a fun-loving, energetic, goody-toe shoes, hopeless romantic, who cares about his family and friends. #keeper

The question on everyone’s mind… what is your relationship status?
Single.

What is it going to take for a lucky lady to catch your eye?
A genuine personality, and a nice smile. And I like some engaging, witty batter.

What are your turn offs?
Lack of authenticity, I try not to pick people apart though. If I was turned off by someone I probably wouldn’t be talking to them in the first place.

What don’t you understand about women?
I don’t pick up on subtleties. It’s like how some guys are color blind, I am subtleties illiterate.

Do you have any tactics or one-liners to get a lady?
Compliment + Introduction= mathematic success. It was invented by the ancient Greeks. I mean its not like hunting game, in order to be authentic it has to be sincere and in the moment.

Besides being a ladies man, what are you interested in?
I am not ladies man. I’m just a guy who was exposed to too much James Bond and Frank Sinatra as a kid. I’m a people person. I like interacting with others; I learn sports just to meet people. Right now I’m learning soccer and boxing. Current affairs: pop culture.

So you just studied abroad: how was that?
Well I had never been on a plane until I left the country, and I was 20 years old! I got to visit 11 countries, and travel on the weekends. My favorite part was my host family. We had 8 hours of school and then homework 4 days a week. It was worth every hour and every penny.

Being a Campus Cutie is something you can now cross off your bucket list, what are some other things on there that you want to have done before graduation?
I want to get accepted to a Top 50 Law School, I want to go skydiving, and get a motorcycle. I want to go to Disneyland; yeah I know I had a deprived childhood. I’m kind of just a day-by-day kind of guy.

So let’s hear it, what is your most embarrassing moment?
I have no shame. I don’t really get embarrassed; I just let it roll of my back.  There’s nothing that a smile and a shrug can’t fix.

What does a typical day look like for you?
I make dinner the night before, and then I wake up, make a protein shake and bathe. Then I eat breakfast; eggs yogurt and toast, milk and espresso. Then I go to class, followed by some work at the Jacqua. Then I hit the gym to get swole, shower, eat dinner in that order… then I read for class and go to bed. Then rinse, lather and repeat.

What do you do in your spare time?
Lift weight religiously. When I’m not doing that, I play any intramural that I can. This term I am doing soccer, volleyball and softball.

How do you have time for all that?
I try to make it work as best as I can. If the body runs as a car mine runs on espresso.

If you were an animal what would you be?
I have come to the realization that I am a dog. Easily distracted, if you give me attention and affection I will always be loyal. And I like to be scratched.

Since you love espresso, would you rather make it or buy a fancy drink?
I don’t like the fufu stuff. I like it straight and black.

Favorite Food?
I eat everything in sight. My favorite it whatever is in front of me.

Who is the one family member that has influenced you the most?
The answer is my Catholic school teaching mother, and her demonstrations though her strength with breast cancer. Plus she taught me how to be a real gentleman.
