My Skin Gets Super Oily Throughout the Day, But These 5 Products Help Reduce the Shine

I have had firsthand experience with oily skin for 19 years, so I know that it can be quite exhausting to deal with. The constant breakouts, flashback in photos — and the scare of oh wait, is my face sweating when it’s not even hot outside? Yup, been there, done that.

Throughout my college years, I’ve been to various night parties where I’ve needed to pat my makeup with a tissue in the bathroom, and had many unfortunate mornings of waking up to a damp, greasy face. Since I wear makeup on a daily basis, it’s difficult to find ways to keep my skin in check too. But luckily, I’ve discovered a few everyday products that keep the grease tame, and I’m about to drop the wisdom on you.

1. Seaweed Deep Cleansing Gel Wash

The Body Shop, thebodyshop.com, $13; shop now

Having oily skin means waking up with unnecessary gunk on your face, so it’s important to get cleanse first before you go on with your day. This face wash is oil-free, and it definitely helps me feel clean in the morning.

2. Mint Mattifying Face Mist

The Body Shop, thebodyshop.com, $8; shop now

Before any makeup application, I always make sure to use this face mist to help diminish oil (while still making my skin feel hydrated). Not to mention, it smells pretty great.

3. Seaweed Oil-Control Lotion with SPF 15 Sunscreen

The Body Shop, thebodyshop.com, $15; shop now

Not only does this product hold back the oil by leaving a matte finish, but it’s also extremely lightweight. The SPF is a plus as well, since it’s really important for your skin’s health.

4. The POREfessional Face Primer

Benefit Cosmetics, sephora.com, $32; shop now

It’s safe to say that this mattifying primer pretty much saved my life. It works super well in my T-zone, which is where I get the most oily.

5. Translucent Loose Setting Powder

Laura Mercier, sephora.com, $39; shop now

I never really used setting powder until recently, and let me tell you that I don’t even want to remember who I was before I found this product. It saves my skin from those endless napkin pats and truly provides me with an ~airbrushed~ look.

After discovering these amazing skin-savers, I realized that it wasn’t the end of the world if I woke up with a greasy complexion. They have alleviated a tremendous amount of stress, and it feels pretty darn great to go about my day without worrying about how my skin looks.
