Petra is a Criminology student and pursuing a Minor in Human Rights and Human Diversity. She has a huge love for sushi, animals, and taking pictures of anything and everything! Cats and horses are her ultimate weaknesses (#CatPerson). Outside of HerCampus, Petra is usually found hanging out with her friends, binge-watching Netflix or playing with her puppy and 2 kittens! (They're adorable)

School's Out, But Summer Lovin' Is In!

Universities have gone through many challenges when it comes to changing the way they administer everything as a result of the pandemic; however, in a way, I feel like the institutions have suffered no loss and the students have. From emotions to maturity, to physical attributes, we’ve all gone through changes as a result of this crazy year. I think it’s safe to say that we all deserve a proper break to re-energize and reboot.

Feeling Burnt Out? Tips to Get Back on Track!

Zoom university has me feeling completely unmotivated and dreading anything school related. It doesn’t look like COVID is going away any time soon, so for the time being, we have to do what we can to help ourselves. Take advantage of all your resources and never feel ashamed for needing a break!

Practicing Gratitude Isn't Only for Thanksgiving!

In grade school, we’re taught the basic elements of survival: a roof over your head, food and water, and fire. I’d assume if you’re able to even read this article, you have all these listed elements checked off. That alone is a luxury. When you think about it, most of us probably don’t actually know what it is to survive...

    The Benefits of Journaling

A part of growth is developing the ability to be fully transparent and honest with yourself. People release emotion in various ways; some get angry, some cry, and some may separate themselves from their emotions entirely. When you write out your thoughts, feelings, and emotions, you claim responsibility for them. Journaling is a way to ‘speak to’ an unbiased source that can’t tell you you’re wrong.

10 Movies to Hype Up the Holidays

For obvious reasons, quarantined celebrations are the vibe this year. Unfortunately, we just have to suck it up and go with it. Although the pandemic changes things, it doesn’t affect the way we give thanks, appreciate, or love our families and friends. Lucky for you, the internet is a beautiful place, and I have a few movies worth watching to get you hyped for the holidays!

3 Ways to Master the "It is What it is" Mentality

Regardless of any religious beliefs, spiritual beliefs, or no beliefs at all, I think everyone can agree that there are some things that happen just because they are supposed to. There’s no such thing as a power struggle with fate or the universe. What’s the point of stressing about something you can’t control or change? No one masters the control of their emotions right off the bat. Here are a few tips to relax your mind, and work towards that “it is what it is” mentality!

The Genocide No One is Talking About

Uighur Muslims have been demoralized for as long as they can remember. As you are reading this, there are between 1 and 1.8 million Uighur Muslims arbitrarily detained in internment camps in China. Our society thrives on the ‘ignorance is bliss’ mentality. As much as we want to be proud of how ‘self-aware’ and ‘woke’ we are, the reality is that we are just sheltered.

Living in Today's Society with Immigrant Parents

Diversity is something that is underappreciated and often overlooked. When you have immigrant parents, there is a need for balance. A balance between honouring your cultural values and creating your own morals from personal experiences. Having different views is not wrong, it’s simply a difference in personalities and characters.

    Fake News...? Tackling COVID-19 conspiracies

“9/11 was an inside job” “Jeffrey Epstein didn’t kill himself in prison” “Area 51 is researching and experimenting on aliens” With anything that gets national or international recognition, people start talking. Conspiracy theories are freaky. They are meant to be controversial and explore alternate purposes. There's a reason for everything, right? Maybe more than one...
