Ava Mayes is currently a first-year student at the University of Virginia who is exploring Political Science in the College of Arts and Sciences and hoping to get involved with the Batten School of Public Policy and Leadership in her third year.
She is from Plano, Texas, where she was on the junior board of the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum and enjoyed learning how to market and plan events to teach human rights history while being immersed in a network of activists and historians!
In her free time, she loves seeing movies with her friends, hiking, traveling with her family, going to concerts, and getting involved politically in her community. (Some of her most fulfilling experiences have been peaceful protests, political rallying, and participating in voter registration efforts.)
She is so excited to write about all of this and more through UVA’s Her Campus chapter!
