Amelia Rousseau is a first-year university student currently studying journalism in Ottawa, Ontario at Carleton University. She grew up near Toronto, where she developed an interest in writing, storytelling, and the world around her. Growing up in a bilingual household helped her become comfortable communicating in both English and French. Moving to Ottawa for university has been an exciting change for Amelia, giving her the opportunity to experience a new city while continuing her education and working toward a career in journalism.
Amelia became interested in journalism because she enjoys learning about different people and hearing their stories. During her time working with Rogers TV, she gained hands-on experience in the field by interviewing people, writing scripts, working on sets, and learning how to use cameras. This experience helped her become more confident in professional settings and showed her that journalism could be a career where she could continue meeting people, asking questions, and telling stories. She hopes to eventually use journalism as a way to travel and experience different places and perspectives.
Outside of school, Amelia enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, writing, and being creative. She has always enjoyed creating stories and characters, which has also led her to work on her own fiction writing. Her interests range from journalism and storytelling to film, music, and exploring new places. As she continues university, Amelia hopes to build her writing and communication skills while gaining more experience in the journalism industry. She is especially interested in finding opportunities that allow her to combine her love of storytelling with her interest in meeting new people and discovering different communities.
