The trees and flowers are starting to bloom, the air smells fresh, and it’s finally warm enough to start thinking about your Spring and Summer wardrobe. New season means new seasonal reads, and we’ve got five book recommendations to welcome Spring 2022 in.

1. Lessons From Plants, Beronda L. Montgomery

“Plants have strength, knowledge, and intelligence that are worthy of admiration in and of themselves…not because they affirm the ways in which we animals have those qualities” – If you’re in the mood to refresh your mindset and grow your leadership skills this year, this book is perfect. Dr. Montgomery takes lessons from biological processes and applies them to personal growth, setting the reader up for leadership success through unconventional ideas.

2. Chocolat, Joanne Harris

This 1999 novel inspired a film adaptation in 2000 with a star-studded cast that includes Johnny Depp as the love interest. A young single mother moves to a small village to open a chocolaterie, much to the horror of the residents, especially the village priest. The chocolaterie begins to connect the town’s inhabitants, forging new relationships and bonds, despite it being the season of Lent. The book (and the movie) are worth diving into for the chocolate, love, and all the emotions brought up during the town’s interactions with the chocolaterie.

3. The Princess Bride, William Goldman

Another classic novel adapted into a famous movie, this book is what inspired the lovable and quotable film The Princess Bride. Swashbuckling romance, witty dialogue, and fairytales are perfect for Springtime.

4. Uprooted, Naomi Novik

If The Princess Bride isn’t quite your style, but you’re still looking for a passionate fairytale retelling, Naomi Novik’s entrancing story about growth, magic and love might be more your style. When a young maiden is chosen by a mysterious wizard to leave her family and live out her days in his tower, she seizes the opportunity to learn magic so she can better understand the sickly and dangerous forest spreading across the land. Full of passion and magic, this is one of Novik’s best works.

5. A Poem For Every Spring Day, Allie Esiri

Springtime is the perfect time to reconnect with poetry while enjoying nature’s seasonal bounty. In this anthology, Allie Esiri has collected the perfect array of poems to greet the new season with. Featuring poems by William Wordsworth, Maya Angelou, and Carol Ann Duffy (among many others) this mix of new and old works will refresh and brighten your Spring outlook.

Whether you’re looking for a refreshed mindset through a leadership and self-discovery book, or are looking to dive into some Spring romance, this list will get you started on your Spring reading list. For more inspiration, visit the “Readers’ Most Anticipated New Spring Reads” list on Goodreads.
