How to Boost Your Confidence When You Aren’t Feeling Yourself

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. John's chapter.

We all have days where we love ourselves and feel confident, and days where we feel the opposite. Practicing self-confidence leads to better relationships, better execution of daily life, and an openness to do new things. Feeling confident every day is a struggle for me that I am working on, and I want to share a few tips that I have learned that make me feel a little bit better:

  1. Repeat Positive Affirmations

Having a positive affirmation that makes you feel good about yourself is a great way to start. Pick a phrase that means something to you and tuck it away until you need it most. Your positive affirmation can be something such as, “you are amazing” or, “I am worthy of what I desire.” Say your phrase whenever you want and it could help you in no time!

  1. Wear Clothes That Make You Feel Good

When you look good, you feel good, so pick outfits that make you feel amazing! We all have one staple that makes us feel our best or gives us a happiness boost, so wear whatever that is! However, it is important that you do not depend on clothing alone to help you feel your best, but it can help you get to a certain point.

  1. Practice Positive Self Talk

Talking about yourself negatively can hurt you in the long run. It convinces your mind that what you say is true. Establish the habit of being your biggest cheerleader. Be optimistic when talking about yourself and your goals. Do not say “can’t”! You can do anything you set your mind to and do not let your mind overcome you.

  1. Face Your Fears

Face your fears! Facing your fears puts you in control and helps you think clearly. Do not let your emotions take over and rule your life. Many times, I have looked in the mirror and told myself I do not look good in a certain outfit and that if I wear it, I will be judged. This is just my subconscious telling me false thoughts. Wear the outfit anyway, and tell yourself that you can rock it.

It is inevitable that we are not going to feel our best everyday. It is okay to have bad days! No person is 100% confident every day, so it is okay to not feel the best everyday. Use these tips to help that feeling go away and feel just a little bit better on those bad days.
