You may not know it, but Atlanta’s LGBTQ scene is growing rapidly. From nightlife to festivals, there is no doubt you can find your place in this loving, thriving community. Here are the highlights of what Atlanta has to offer for the gay community.
THE PLACE TO BE: MIDTOWN
Calling all the gays! Midtown is the neighborhood YOU want to be in if you’re looking for a place in Atlanta’s LGBTQ community to call home.
With rainbow crosswalks and queer-owned bars- you just can’t beat it.
I recommend heading to Atlanta’s longest-running lesbian bar, My Sister’s Room, for a night of unforgettable fun and amazing drag shows. Since 1996, My Sister’s Room has been known as THE gay bar of the south, so don’t miss out on this location!
Midtown is an ideal spot to live at (or visit!) to fully bask in what Atlanta’s LGBTQ scene has to offer.
EVENTS
If you attend any LGBTQ event in Atlanta, make it the Annual Pride Festival. With more than 30,000 people in attendance each year, there is no better place to express your sexuality freely. At Atlanta Pride, be among thousands of others who truly understand who you are. Unfortunately, the past two years, due to COVID-19, the Pride festival has been canceled– but our fingers are crossed that 2022 will be better than ever!
Another event incredibly important to Atlanta’s LGBTQ community is the Toy Party every December. Members of the community show their support for children in need by attending the event, donating toys, and partaking in the silent auction. We hope you can make it to the 18th Annual Toy Party on December 5, 2021, at Biltmore Ballrooms!
SHOW YOUR SUPPORT
A great way to show your support of Atlanta’s LGBTQ community is to shop and donate to queer-ran businesses.
Lost-N-Found Youth Thrift Store, located only 15 minutes from Georgia State, is dedicated to supporting street outreach, building youth centers, and creating transitional housing for homeless LGBTQ youth with the proceeds made from their store. If you are interested in donating, the store accepts clothing, toys, furniture, art, collectibles, fitness equipment, small kitchen appliances, and household goods (dishware, utensils, kitchen supplies). They also accept new men’s/women’s underwear and socks, bed sheets (twin), washcloths & towels, laundry detergent & dryer sheets, disposable plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, paper napkins, toilet paper, personal hygiene items (shaving, dental, shower supplies, etc.), shelf-stable snack items, and restaurant gift cards. If you can donate any of these items, you could be changing a homeless LGBTQ child’s life.
