The fall season is one of the best times of year, and this is not up for debate. The weather starts to cool down, life finally starts winding down before the holidays and all things cinnamon are in season. What’s not to love?

Most importantly, fall also brings along the end of the semester, and I think it’s safe to say we all need that. Maybe it is because everyone has been adjusting to our “normal” lives on campus, post-COVID again, but it seems that everyone has been in quite the slump for the past few weeks.

Everyone is sick, exhausted and burnt out from classes, and because of this, Thanksgiving break has turned into a light at the end of a very dark and long tunnel.

Getting out of a slump requires some time for yourself to truly feel relaxed; what better way to do that than finding some quality television to binge while being at home? There is no better thing than watching a TV series that can provide you with the best fall vibes from the comfort of your own bed.

On that note, grab some popcorn, settle down and check out five shows to binge this fall that will make you want to put on a knit sweater.

gilmore girls

It would be criminal to make a list of fall television without including the classic that is Gilmore Girls. Released in the early 2000s, the show takes place in the small town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut and follows single mom Lorelai and her daughter Rory on their adventures. This show was a quarantine binge for me, and it perfectly encompasses the feeling of fall and all things comforting. The characters are lovable, and the family drama will have you on the edge of your seat. Check out the seven seasons streaming on Netflix now.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Now I know it’s not technically spooky season anymore, but this show is perfect for the entirety of fall. This show is on Netflix as well and follows teenager Sabrina Spellman, a high school girl born into a family of witches who must decide between pursuing a life in her coven and keeping her friends and normal life. For those that like creepy television, this is the one for you. The episodes have a perfect balance of creepy mixed with comedy that will pull you in and keep you guessing throughout each season.

Anne with an E

For those wanting a feel-good show, listen up. Netflix’s Anne with an E follows 13-year-old Anne Shirley, an orphaned girl who is mistakenly adopted by an elderly couple who initially intended to adopt a young boy. Set in the late 1890s on Prince Edward Island in Canada, the cinematography of this show is breathtaking, with nature shots of the trees and ocean that will transport you to Green Gables. And, if you love the show, make sure to check out the novel Anne of Green Gables, the inspiration for the show.

Stranger Things

With the release of the trailer for season four, now is the time for anybody on the fence to watch Stranger Things and prepare for the new episodes coming out next year. This Netflix show takes place in Hawkins, Indiana, a sleepy town that becomes the center for a supernatural mystery after local boy Will Byers vanishes into thin air. Stranger Things is a pop culture sensation, and its first season does a fantastic job of capturing Midwestern fall. For those with a love for the 1980s, the fashion, music and décor will entrance you, and coupled with the fantastic plotline and characters, you can’t miss this one.

Peaky Blinders

For those of us feeling the urge to travel, Peaky Blinders is the perfect show to transport you to another world. Set in London during the early 1900s, the show follows the life of mob boss Tommy Shelby. The show’s landscape of London coupled with the action and intense plotline, Peaky Blinders will pull you in and not let you go.

All five of these shows will help you continue to feel the spirit of fall while we’re still in it, and could even provide some outfit inspiration for those of us who love a retro look. With over twenty seasons of content between all five shows, these suggestions will hopefully keep you entertained for the rest of the year. Happy watching!
