Need a quiet place to grill through a long scientific article or a difficult math problem? Too lazy to walk all the way to Powell Library? Don’t worry, I got your back. Here are the 4 best spots on the Hill for laser-sharp focus:
- Cubicles at the Olympic-Centennial lounge
-
These cubicles can seem a little intimidating at first, but it’s actually the best place for max concentration. Because of the physical division and quietness of the room, your friends can’t distract you so that you can get on that study zone.
And yes, you CAN use this lounge even if you don’t live in the Olympic/Centennial buildings!
- Blue room at the Study
-
These study rooms are located in the corner of the cafe The Study at Hedrick. The blue lights in the room help calm the mind and aid concentration, giving you a productivity boost. You can snack while you study too—a good motivator to keep working!
- study rooms in Rieber, Sproul, or Hedrick
-
If you really want to have your own space with absolutely no distractions, you can book a study space just for yourself at Rieber, Sproul, or Hedrick Hall. These study rooms have pretty good soundproofing and the time limit of your reservation will give you strong motivation to finish within the time limit. If you’re lucky enough, you might even be able to hear some classic music from a music practice room next door!
- Your floor lounge IF no one’s there
-
An empty (or almost empty) floor lounge with a couple of people studying is the perfect refresher to your study scene, especially if you’ve been studying in your room all day. You can always go back to your room to get something you forgot or if your lounge is starting to get crowded. Even on the weekends, I guarantee you that you can find a quiet lounge if you look on other floors!
These are the 4 best spots on the Hill for maximum concentration. A change of scenery is always a good idea to maintain focus. But, don’t forget to also take breaks and enjoy life!
