At a certain point in time, it’s a good idea to just self-reflect on what’s been happening in our lives. It’s near the end of 2021 and only a few months away from the new year! Therefore, I decided to simply jot down some questions and to give myself a little personal interview or self-reflection if you will.

Q: Am I taking anything for granted?

Answer: “I truly feel like what I may be taking for granted is my youth. We don’t know when our time is up on this earth and if you’re constantly waiting for something spontaneous to happen, because then you’ll end up missing out on life. Many of us do the same tasks each day and self-loathe about either what we don’t have, what we don’t look like, what trend we’re not following, or how many likes, subscribers, and followers on social media we don’t have. It’s extremely exhausting to constantly be comparing yourself to an unrealistic expectation you perceive. Our youth is extremely important because it allows us to make room for mistakes and find out how our imperfections are what makes us uniquely beautiful.”

Q: What worries me most about the future?

Answer: “Well the future doesn’t have to mean 10 years from now. The future is simply the next breath we inhale and exhale. I guess for some people a common concern about the future is not being successful. However, it most definitely comes down to the idea of what your definition of success is.What worries me the most about the future is the regret of not following my dreams. When you’re young you shout to the teacher what you want to be when you grow up and you feel so sure of yourself, but as you get a bit older your expectations start to change as reality hits you and maturity kicks in. Then you’re not so sure of yourself anymore, soyou pick another path to take in your life and just hope for the best. For some people it comes out as the best decision they ever made, but for others it may not be so great. Whatever I may decide to continue to pursue in life, I want to make sure that it’s something worth chasing.”

Q: What have I given up on?

Answer: “At one point in time I had given up on hope of succeeding in college. I was consistently not doing well in my classes. I felt like there were more failures than successes. I didn’t have the willpower to keep trying because I felt like I was fighting a battle that I had already lost. It was truly a terrible feeling of hopelessness and shame of who I was and what I was becoming. What I have given up on is allowing myself to say and believe things that are untrue about my identity. I am someone who is capable of love and loving others. I am someone who can achieve many amazing things life has to offer. I am someone who will rise from the darkness of negativity and into the light of positivity. I am who I am and no one else. We were born an original so we shouldn’t die a copy.”
