This week, I attended my first concert since the Covid-19 pandemic started. Even though I have never been one to go to many concerts, I definitely felt their absence in my life these past two years. Many of my favorite artists, Taylor Swift in particular, had to cancel tours during the pandemic. It was understandable but also meant that I missed out on shows I would have loved to see. I was so excited to finally go to my first concert in almost three years!
Being able to attend events such as concerts again is a sign that we are headed back to normal. It was so much fun to be part of a big crowd and get to meet so many people who were just as excited for the show as I was. It’s easy to forget how important human interaction is because we took it for granted before the pandemic. We did not realize how special it was to be able to gather freely until that ability was stripped from us. Suddenly, we realized how good we had it before.
Since the pandemic, I take every opportunity I have to connect with other people. Attending big events was the part of my life that I missed the most while in lockdown. I missed the energy of the crowd and being able to have these experiences in person. While it was the only option we had, experiencing life through a screen did not do justice to everything life has to offer. Going to this concert reminded me just how precious human interaction and engagement are, and I will never forget that again.
