This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter and does not reflect the views of Her Campus.
Ladies and gentleman, I present to you the face behind the Bucknell photographer: Edward Louie. As a Civil Engineering major, it’s surprising he has free time on his hands to not only take pictures at most major campus events, but really, really good ones. His shots have been used all over Bucknell, from the Bucknellian to the university website, so there was clearly no one more appropriate to fill the role of our very first campus celebrity.
Q: When did you first start taking pictures?
A: 5th grade.
Q: How did you develop your photography skills?
A: I started doing photography in 5th grade because I felt that words were insufficient at conveying what I wanted to share with others so I found photography to be a great supplement. They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
Q: What is it about photography that you love?
A: Everyone is passionate about something. I am passionate about photography because it allows me to capture and preserve fleeting moments that are beautiful, precious, passionate, fun or intense.
Q: I heard you were taking a break from your camera– is this true?
A: I would like to take a break from photography so I can experience events as everyone else does. I don’t want to leave Bucknell being known solely as the photographer on campus.
Q: What are your future career plans?
A: I would like to go to graduate school for engineering.
Q: What else do you like to do on campus?
A: I have come to realize that college is a time for not only intellectual cultivation, but also spiritual refinement. The academic rigor here at Bucknell will get to a point that one needs to have a better reason to persevere than money, fame and success in the future. One will ask themselves, “What meaningful reason do I have to warrant continuing which may lead to bigger questions like what is the purpose of life?”
I am the student president of Disciple Makers Christian Fellowship. It is a great privilege to be able to talk to others about faith and the big questions in life, such as, “What is the purpose of life, is there a God and if so, what is this God like?
Q: What is your greatest accomplishment to date?
A: I don’t know, I don’t believe I have accomplished anything that is really worth boasting about. It is very humbling to compare what Christ has done for humanity with anything I could possibly accomplish.

Do you have any fun facts?
I have been to Hong Kong over a dozen times.
I enjoy riding my bike more than driving.
I have been to the movie theater only a few times in my entire life and have never personally paid to go see a movie.
I am left handed and left eye dominant.
I find greater lasting fulfillment in mentoring people who are interested in photography than taking pictures.
So there you have it–the person who captures our gorgeous campus and lively student body through a camera lens. His talents reach far past photography, and it’s clear he’s not just another guy with a camera; he’s Edward Louie.
