When the Spartan Men’s Basketball team defeated Minnesota 68-52 last week it wasn’t just a regular win for head coach Tom Izzo, it was his 400th career win as head coach of the Spartans. During the days prior to the momentous win, Izzo downplayed what the milestone would mean to him. Spartan leader, Draymond Green, looks up to Izzo like a father and mentor and he made sure they got him his 400th securing it with 22 points and 14 rebounds and six assists. Although Izzo said he wouldn’t be overly emotional if they got the win, he was wiping away tears even before the buzzer sounded. His players and the officials were all congratulating him on the huge win when the Izzone was equally as excited chanting, “Izzo! Izzo! 400! 400!” Even tried to keep his cool throughout the week going up to the game his players who look up to him as a father figure knew it would be surreal for him. “I knew he’d cry at the end,” Spartans center Nix said. “He always wears his emotions on his sleeve.” We over here at HCMSU think that sums it all up perfectly. We love you Izzo!
