Dear Abby,
I haven’t exactly been watching what I’ve been eating during these cold months…I’m going somewhere very warm over spring break that requires being on a beach…in a bathing suit…in front of other people. It’s making me not want to go, if you catch my drift. Should I?

Dear No-Longer-A-Bikini-Babe,
While I get (and share) the sentiments, you’re being a little dramatic. Most people, besides the gym robots as I affectionately call them, slip up with their gym routine in the winter. Spring Break is around the corner, but I don’t think you’re going to be the only not so toned bikini babe out there. You can’t completely turn things around before you go, but you can start, and at the very least make yourself feel a lot better about yourself and your body. We all have our ups and downs with our weight, so stop with the pity party. This is really an easy fix.
As we learned from the timeless classic Legally Blonde; “exercise gives you endorphins, and endorphins make you happy!” I know that when I’m not being active, I really get myself into a funk. I feel bad about myself, I’m lethargic, and I’m just unhappy in general. Working out really gets me out of that slump, even though I don’t see results right away. My energy goes up, I’m more productive, and I’m happier. So, how about start off slow (to stop your body from going into post-sub shock) and substitute one bad meal a day for a healthy meal, and hit the gym for at least a little bit several times this week. You’ll start feeling a lot better about yourself (and being on a beach), and you’ll think you were nuts for even considering giving up your fun spring break. You may not look like Gisele in time for spring break, but inside you’ll feel like her!
Good Luck!
Abby
