The Spartan Men’s Basketball Team gets our Campus Celeb vote this week for their valiant effort all throughout their 2012 season. They entered the season unranked and unnoticed. After losing 5 players from the previous year, it was almost unconceivable that we would end up the best in the Big Ten Conference over big dogs like Ohio State. Sure enough though, as most Spartan fans know, we proved everyone wrong. We ended the regular season at an all-time high, the best in the big ten. Although we essentially had to “share” the Big Ten honors with Ohio State and UofM, we proved at the Big Ten Championship that it was our team that was the best. We were the only team of six no. 1 seeds to win its conference title and that didn’t go unnoticed. Shortly after winning an epic battle on the court against the mighty OSU, 68-64 in case you forgot, it was announced that we had received a much deserved no. 1 seed pick in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. With March Madness beginning today and the Spartans playing Long Island University on Friday we look for our first win to go on to Sundays game and eventually make it to the big dance. As many are pointing out, we are having a season much like our last national championship season in 2000 where we began at the bottom and came back to win a championship under Mateen Cleeves and the original Flintstones. It might be this warmer weather we’ve been experiencing but it sure feels magical on campus lately and I see big things for our Spartan Dawgs in the near future..
