Today is the First Annual Equal Pay Day: It’s Time for Women to #Ask4More!

According to Catalyst, women in their first jobs post MBA earn $4,600 less per year than their male counterparts.

Because of these numbers, today, April 17th, 2012, is the first annual #EqualPay Day! This event is sponsored by #AskForMore, an organization which is encouraging women to take action for equal pay opportunities.

Her Campus has joined this movement with #AskForMore because we believe that collegiettes can make a difference and take action – and the current ratio of women earning 70.5 cents to a man’s dollar is evidence that we need to take action! Plus, statistics show that younger women are more closely approaching pay equity with men than older women, so there is hope for change in the near future, especially within the women of our age group and generation.

According to their website, #Ask4More is “all about what each of us can do to change the income ratio of women’s earnings to men’s.We hope that you will join us as we come together to support one another to #ask4more this year and pledge to do just that– ask for more. Plan for more. And fight for more.”

You can show your support for this movement by sharing ask4more2day.com with your twitter followers and Facebook friends, and by using the hashtag #ask4more to explain why women in the working world deserve MORE than what they are getting right now.
