It’s almost that time of year again; the Faneuil Hall tree has been lit, our mornings are dropping below 40 degrees, and the festive red Starbucks cups can been seen in a number of mitten-handed students on their way to class. Winter can be hard on couples, as it involves Christmas break, stressful final study time, and the bitter cold can put a damper on your mood. But with a little effort and some good date ideas, winter dating can be fun and festive. Here are a few dating ideas that embrace this fun and festive season!

Skating on the Frog Pond

Taking a stroll through the Common is beautiful in the fall, with the leaves changing and wind blowing, and it also has its ups in the winter. With the trees lit and snow falling, the Boston Common can make for a winter wonderland. During the winter, the Frog Pond is frozen so those with ice skates can skate for free. Though it might feel a little silly if you’re a beginner, skating is a fun activity that gets you out to enjoy the winter air, so grab your boyfriend for a romantic day on the ice.

Decorate Your Dorm

Crank up the Christmas station on Pandora and bring out the box of decorations! Run to CVS or iParty if you can’t find anything from home. Set up a mini tree, drape tinsel around the doorframes, and hang up some stockings! Also, some mistletoe wouldn’t hurt… if you know what I mean.

Go See a Show

This time of year there are a number of great shows around the Boston area and even on campus! Dress up and go out with your boyfriend for a classy night at the Nutcracker or any other show. It’s a good way to use a cold night for a nice dinner and a nice ballet.

Play in the Snow!

Take a break from studying from your stressful finals and go outside! This is a good way for you and your boyfriend to unwind and feel like little kids again. Have a snowball fight, make snow angels, or build a snowman. Either way, you’ll have a great time re-living your childhood and bonding with your date!

Stay in and Watch Movies

Baby, it’s cold outside! When you want a change from the winter cold, invite your date over for a good Christmas movie or two. Make some hot cocoa, bring out the blankets and pillows, and snuggle up to watch something cute and festive! Anything from the adorable Love Actually to old-school Rudolph movies will get you and your boy in the Christmas mood!

Bake!

Pull out the flour, sugar, and icing (well, and a few more ingredients) and whip together some Christmas sugar cookies! You two can have a great time blasting Christmas music and eating cookie dough.  If you’re really feeling in the Christmas mood, buy a gingerbread house kit and some extra candy and put together a cute Christmas home!
