It’s no secret that spirit groups are a huge deal here at UT, and with a school as amazing as ours, there are plenty of ways to show your school spirit. We wanted to catch up with some of the campus’ most notable spirit groups to see just what these girls are up to. We’re chatting with Luisa Rodrigues, president of the Longhorn Honeys to find out what makes these collegiettes unique.
HC Texas: Why did you join Longhorn Honeys? Â
Luisa Rodrigues:I was looking to meet new people and really liked the girls in the Honeys. The fact that all the girls enjoyed sports helped too.
HCTX: What makes your organization different from any other spirit/service organizations?Â
LR:Â We are one of the smallest spirit groups on campus. Our smaller size makes it easy for everyone to know each other.
HCTX: What events does your organization have? Any coming up?Â
LR:Â We host various events throughout the year. We go support all different UT sports teams, do volunteer work around Austin, and host our own social events. On February 7 we had our Rookie Interview. This is a chance for all of the girls interested in joining the Honeys this semester to come out and interview with us.
HCTX: What’s something students may be surprised to find out about Longhorn Honeys?Â
LR:Â Unlike most spirit/service organizations, we support all UT athletics. All of the Honeys enjoy football season, but we also like to go to softball, basketball, swimming and diving and track events, to name a few.
HCTX: Tell us something people should absolutely know about your Longhorn Honeys:Â
LR:Â We’re a group of awesome, down-to-earth girls. We’re all unique but all get along. This isn’t your typical girls’ spirit group; the Longhorn Honeys are something special!
