Meet this year’s senior class president Kelsea Alderman!  This hilarious, driven, and stylish economics major from New Canaan handles all the responsibilities that come with coordinating and representing the Bucknell class of 2014.  She is not only committed to making positive changes on campus but also to ensuring students are having a great time as they spend their last year here in Lewisburg.

1) What is your role as student body president?

My role as Senior Class President is multifaceted. First and foremost, my job is to ensure that the Class of 2014 has its best year yet at Bucknell. As President, I oversee a congress of 12 students, including my Secretary/Treasurer and Vice President. We have weekly meetings to discuss pressing matters and also take care of the year’s business. A few tasks the Senior Congress is responsible for is choosing and purchasing the Senior Gift, selling the class product, coordinating Senior Nights in the spring semester, and creating class bonding events that will be held throughout the semester. In addition to these tasks, a key responsibility of the Senior Class President is to help pick the Commencement Speaker and speak at the Senior Candle Lighting Ceremony in May.

2) What do you hope to accomplish this year as president? Why did you choose to run for the position?

My hope for this year is to have the most fun and also set a great example for the classes below me. I want to show the students at Bucknell that you can make a difference on this campus and also have a great time in the processes, these two are not mutually exclusive. I have always dreamed of being the Senior President since joining BSG freshman year, and I decided to run for this spot when I was abroad in Prague. Everyone there was so supportive and gave me the confidence I needed to see my dream through!

3) What has been your most rewarding experience thus far?

Picking one ‘most rewarding’ experience would be hard for me, but if I had to pinpoint something it would be my abroad experience in the Czech Republic. The four months I spent in Europe taught me about the world, and about myself, in ways that I never thought possible. I encourage everyone who has the opportunity to study abroad to do it.

4) Where do you see yourself post graduation?

After graduation I see myself sipping mimosas in my Knightsbridge flat with Prince Harry, living off his estate and doing philanthropy work on the side. If this doesn’t work out, I’ll probably be living in New York City working at a job I love and getting myself into moderate amounts of trouble.

5) What aspect, if any, would you change about Bucknell if you could?

If I could change anything about Bucknell I would remove the stigmas behind drugs and alcohol on this campus. College is the time in your life where you are encouraged to experiment, both socially and academically, and I think that the environment here is punishing students when it should be coaxing them towards a healthier and happier lifestyle.

6) What is the #1 non-academic lesson Bucknell has taught you?

Never judge a book by its cover. Bucknell was literally the only college I was accepted to and I was far from pleased about coming here, but these past four years have been more than amazing, and I learned that life may not go according to plan, but you have to learn to see the silver lining around every cloud and live life to the fullest. Enough analogies?
