One of the best times of the year is the changing of seasons, especially transitioning from a hot southern summer to a brisk Boone fall. For most of us, this means exchanging our sandals to boots and shorts to leggings, but this quick weather shift also means getting sick—and fast. From experience, I have some tips for you to fight those pesky colds and stay healthy through the autumn season.

1. Get some Z’s!
As simple as this sounds, getting enough sleep each night can help your body’s immune system keep germs at bay. Some people can survive off of four hours of sleep, but the rest of us need to at least 7-8 hours per night in order for our bodies to recover from the stresses of the day. If you can, try to fit in a short nap to recharge or make time to go to bed at a decent hour if you know you have to be up at the crack of dawn. It’s all about scheduling, ladies.
2. Keep Clean and Stay Healthy
We have been taught since birth to wash our hands before meals and after a trip to the ladies’ room, but have we really kept up with it? I’m not saying that everyone should wear medical face-masks and constantly squirt hand sanitizer into your palms after touching everything, but it is important to keep your hands clean to stop the spread of germs from one person to another. Simply wash your hands after using the bathroom and try to keep a travel size sanitizer in a fun scent in your purse or backpack just in case. Also, remember to keep those hands off of your pretty little faces!
3. Stay Hydrated!
One of the best ways to stay healthy is to drink lots of fluids. Try to have a Nalgene or Camelback water bottle with you at all times to make sure you’re getting enough fluids throughout the day. Make sure you don’t share your water either!
4. Vitamins, Vitamins, Vitamins
Invest in some preventative vitamins like Emergen-C or AirBorne to get you through the chillier months. They come in all sorts of flavors and are packed with Vitamin C, which is vital to a healthy immune system. My favorite kind is the raspberry flavored mixed into a diet Green Tea. Drink up, ladies!
