Christmas decorations may already be harassing you in all department stores but before we all get excited for Christmas let’s take this time to appropriately celebrate Halloween. If you are anything like my roommate who enjoys listening to “The Monster Mash” on repeat around this time of the year or you got way too excited when you heard they were playing Halloweentown on Disney this past Monday then Halloween is the time for you. Back in elementary school and even high school we knew when Halloween was around the corner because we were making crafts in art class or decorations were put up around the school. Sadly, college doesn’t offer that same Halloween vibe, I guess they are trying to get us to grow up, but who wants to do that? Although we can’t decorate the entire UT campus (if I could I would) we can individually decorate our dorms to satisfy our Halloween needs.

If you are a Pinterest addict like me then you know that it is home to some of the greatest DIYs and I would like to share a few of my Halloween favorites that you can easily create to spice up your dorm this Halloween season.

1. Mummy Jars

Alright these little guys are too cute, can they stay in my room all year round? All you need is some gauze, glue, some jars and googly eyes and these little ones can be yours! Simply glue one side of the gauze to the jar let it dry then continue to wrap the gauze around until its completely covered and glue that end on. Once it is completely dry glue on those googly eyes and you are good to go!

2. Glitter Pumpkins

Who doesn’t love a little glitter? These glittered up pumpkins can glam up your dorm all you need is a pumpkin, orange glitter (or any color), a paint brush and some mod podge. First put out a good amount of newspaper to the area in which you will be decorating these beauties, nobody likes to ruin their floors. Next coat your pumpkin with mod podge using your paint brush (use a larger brush for time purposes). Once your pumpkin is covered sprinkle your glitter onto your pumpkin and let it dry.

3. Glitter Spider Webs

These webs are great for adding color to your dorm, decorating a wall, or hanging from the ceiling! The materials you need are Elmer’s glue, any color glitter, parchment paper (or wax paper), ribbon to match your glitter and fake spiders (either felt stickers or plastic ones). All you need to do is draw with the glue on your paper the web design and apply a very generous amount of glitter to it. Once it dries you can attach the spiders to them or you can just leave them how they are.

4. Bat Shades

This is great if you have a somewhat translucent lamp in your dorm because all you need is black construction paper, scissors and tape or glue if you don’t care about the inside of your shade. The great thing about this is that the design doesn’t necessarily have to be bats you can cut out pumpkins, ghosts, spiders, webs anything that goes along with Halloween you can create a cut out of and tape to the inside of your lamp.

5. Bat Mobile

To create this artsy decoration all you need is string, black construction paper and a branch! Cut out your little bats either by using a template from online or just drawing them out yourself. Poke a little hole into them to loop the string into so you can then attach it to the branch and repeat until you think you have enough bats. Once you are done all you have to do is decide where you want to hang your mobile!

6. Vampire Pumpkins

When I saw these guys on Pinterest I thought they were genius! Plus those plastic vampire teeth are so cheap and all over the place during Halloween time it makes this a super easy craft. All you need is a knife to cut your little pumpkin and a pen to mark where you want to cut. You want to be careful not to make the carving too big or too small because you don’t want the teeth to easily fall out or not fit, I recommend measuring before your carve!

These were a few of my favorite easy Halloween dorm decoration DIY’s, I hope it has inspired you guys to get into the festive spirit!
