Top Three Reasons to Love Halloween

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Duke chapter.

Halloween is fun for so many different reasons! You get to dress up, eat lots of candy, carve pumpkins, and scream at the top of your lungs. Even if you’re swamped with midterms or job applications, you shouldn’t forget to enjoy all the great things fall has to offer. Here are some quick and easy tips to get the most of this Halloween season!

1. Costumes

Choosing the right costume can be stressful. But luckily, there are many easy ways to use what you already have to create the perfect costume. Check out Alexandra’s article on cute DIY costumes and you’ll be all set for your unforgettable night (http://www.hercampus.com/school/duke/best-diy-halloween-costumes-2013).

Or, there’s always Cady Heron’s outfit from Mean Girls

2. Pumpkins Galore!

Head to a pumpkin patch! Being in college doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on one of fall’s most cherished traditions. And luckily there are plenty of places around Durham, like Ganyard Hill Farm, where you can get in the spirit of Halloween (http://ganyardhillfarm.com/attractions/). Whether you’re carving pumpkins or just using them as decorations, choosing the “right one” will be half the fun! Plus, pumpkin patches typically offer hayrides and other fun seasonal activities that are a great way to make memories with your friends.

3. Haunted Adventures

If you dare, Spookywoods is America’s “largest and best” haunted attraction! (http://www.spookywoods.com) You’ll enter a world of corn mazes and haunted houses for around under an hour. People will jump out at you from all different directions, so be prepared to scream- you’ll be scared the whole time.

But if that seems a bit too scary, try doing a haunted pub crawl/tour in Durham. You’ll get to learn about Durham’s haunted past while exploring some great bars. (http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g49369-d1965639-r167821378-Tobacco_Road_Tours-Morrisville_North_Carolina.html).
