We collegiettes understand that sometimes your two hair options are a messy bun or putting dry shampoo in your hair again so you do not have to shower after an all-nighter. If you are in the late semester boring-hair slump, take a cue from the music artists you are probably listening to right now and rock some marvelous hair around the Forty Acres. Being Austin Collegiettes, we should know a thing or two about good music. Now let your favorite music queens inspire you to liven up your locks this winter!

Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey has been creating unique and beautiful indie pop jams for years now, and with the recent success of Summertime Sadness and, lest we forget, Young & Beautiful from The Great Gatsby soundtrack, more and more people seem to be getting on board the Lana love train. She is arguably one of the greatest beauties of our generation. Her dark green eyes are exquisite, her skin is seemingly always glowing, and her lush lips rival Angelina Jolie’s perfect pout. But her recent super dark hair is really the bow that ties all of the bits of beauty together so well. If you are feeling like a darker hair shade is what you want for winter, take the extra step like Lana did and go with a shade darker than you might normally. Style it with soft curls like she does so famously to balance out the darkness of the shade.

Gwen Stefani

A lot of us have been Gwen fans since listening to No Doubt in middle school and using the phrase, “But Moooooooom, Gwen Stefani puts safety pins on all of her clothes!” But Gwen has come a long way in the last ten years. She is now a Mom herself, with a husband and a clothing line and is still making killer music. She has also become a beauty icon and if you can get past how annoyingly perfect her red lipstick always it, you probably notice how great her hair is looking these days. If you have lighter hair, pull a Gwen and get some shorter layers that blonde hair shows off so well. Take it up a notch by using a large-barrel curling iron to add the perfect amount of waviness to the shorter layers.

HAIM

If you went to ACL this year or just have not been too buried in studying for finals, you have probably heard the incredible buzz around the California band of sisters, HAIM, going around. Their music has an almost 80’s feel to it, if not always in sound, then in authenticity. Not only do these sisters know how to write freakishly accurate lyrics and perform for a crowd, all three of them fearlessly rock middle parts when it comes to their hair styling choices. Now, I know a lot of us have not had our hair parted in the middle since the 90’s, but the 90’s are back (hello scrunchies!) and the HAIM sisters are showing us that middle parts with just-barely wavy hair are back in the limelight.

Alexis Krauss from Sleigh Bells

Whether you are listening to them turned up loud in the car with your friends or hearing them in the background of one of your favorite summer movies, The Bling Ring, Sleigh Bells have a fail-proof, feel on top of the world, kind of sound. Alexis Krauss, the vocalist, is a little bit bad girl and a lot straight up gorgeous. Her always-rosy cheeks and light eyes are perfect matches for her chocolate brown locks. Mix edgy and girly like Alexis does with blunt, just above the brow bangs, and soft smaller curls. This gives your hair a leather and lace vibe that can go with whatever style you are leaning more towards each day.

Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea is an Australian bombshell making a splash in the hip hop scene. She is in the habit of making stunning music videos where her clothing choices and makeup are seriously always on point. On and even off duty, Iggy tends to have a glam feeling about her, especially when it comes to her hair. If you want your hair to be out of your face, but still be on par with the rest of your superb styling, take a nod from Iggy and wear your hair in a stylish ponytail. Use a large barrel curling iron (or natural waves) to create bouncy volume in your hair. Then pull your hair tight towards your scalp when you put it up in in a ponytail, and smooth it down with some serum. The sleekness of the top and volume of the bottom creates a glamorous but practical look.

Whether you are wanting a drastic hair change or just looking for something new to do with what you already have, let the lovely musical ladies in your iTunes libraries give you some hints on what to try. Who is your celeb hair inspiration?
