The Best Places to Eat Off Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

It’s the end of the semester and we all need a break from Lackmann food, amiright? While mom’s holiday cooking is just out of reach, humor your taste buds with one of these off-campus eateries near Hofstra.

  1. Witches Brew

A cute little hole-in-the-wall coffee house in Hempstead, Witches Brew offers hundreds of different flavors of coffee drinks. Not only is the food amazing, and the caffeinated drinks to-die-for, but also the décor of the café is unique and cozy, with mismatched furniture and lights on the walls. If you’re looking for somewhere to huddle up in a corner and study for finals, Witches Brew is the perfect place for you.

  1. Napolini’s

If you haven’t heard about the legendary Napolini’s pizza, crawl out of your rock and get ready to taste a slice of heaven. Right down Oak Street, Napolini’s Express is a pizza place serving some of the yummiest pizza in the league. Take the short walk there, grab a slice with friends, and enjoy.

  1. Shake Shack

This popular NYC burger joint has a new location in Garden City! Located right off of Old Country Road, Shake Shack offers you one of the best hamburgers around. Splurge a little and order a burger with some fries and one of their famous milkshakes. The gym will always be there later.

  1. Cozymel’s

A common location for the celebration of Hofstra students’ 21st birthdays, (spoken from experience) Cozymel’s has a large array of different flavored margaritas. Try the sampler, which is a stack of five different flavors and pair it with some authentic nacho’s. If you are not of the legal variety, order a virgin piña colada for some tropical flavor.

  1. Cafe Formaggio

Looking to celebrate the end of the semester with your friends? Splurge on this pricier option and have a nice sit-down dinner with so much great Italian food, you’ll feel like bursting. The meal starts out with one of the best breadbaskets on the planet, serving some sort of pizza bread that is simply unreal. Then you move on to amazing pasta dishes, and if you could fit it, a decadent dessert.

  1. Coliseum Deli

This local establishment is just a hop, skip and a jump from Hofstra’s campus. Located right on the Turnpike, Col-del, as it’s known by Hofstra students, is everyone’s favorite breakfast place. On any given Saturday you will see droves of Hofstra students dragging their tired butts out of bed for a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and the deli’s famous half and half iced tea.
