While I’m sure many movie buffs watch the Oscars for the actual award ceremony, most  of us women can admit to watching the Academy Awards just to assess red carpet fashion. If you were one of the many girls who was deprived of your annual couture critique, here is a breakdown of trends you missed.

Best Dressed

Sparkling nudes, plunging necklines, and strapless, bold solids were among the most popular trends for women on the Red Carpet this year. Julie Delpy, Sarah Paulson, and our favorite Cate Blanchett all glistened in the favorite nude color of the night. There were many strapless gowns in attendance at the Oscars this year, but our favorite sleeveless choices were worn by Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams. Plenty of eyebrows were raised at the plunging neckline trend. Lupita Nyong’o, Kate Hudson, and Charlize Theron all nailed the look with their own takes on the timeless look. The best-dressed men of the night included Matthew McConaughey, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jared Leto, and Brad Pitt.

Best Hair

This year, dramatic Hollywood curls, slicked pixies, and side parted waves were the most popular trends in hair at the Academy Awards. Cate Blanchett with her medium length soft looking curls, Jennifer Lawrence’s swept back yet still voluminous pixie, and Lupita Nyong’o’s statement headband were the top picks for best hair. For the men, slicked back cuts with groomed facial hair was apparent on all men on the carpet. Leonardo Di Caprio, Bradley Cooper, and Brad Pitt were all looking rather dapper all cleaned up on Sunday.

Best Make Up

Dark plum lips, smokey eyes, and neutral make-up were among the trends in make-up this year. Our favorites include Cate Blanchett with her minimalist, warm tones, Sandra bullock with her light pink lips and smokey eye, Emma Watson with her show-stopping red lipstick, and Kerry Washington’s dramatic dark look.

Best Jewelry

As per usual, the 2014 Oscar attendees were sporting plenty of bling. Our favorite earrings included Sandra Bullock’s ear cuff and Olivia Wilde, Angelina Jolie, and Cate Blanchett’s statement drop earrings. Jennifer Lawrence’s long diamond necklace worn on her back and Kristen Bell’s earring and necklace combo also topped the charts.
