As a student that goes to Valdosta State University, I myself complain every other weekend about how there is NOTHING to do out here. I’m a fan of kickbacks and house parties, but going to them every weekend, especially with the same people, can get kind of tiring. So, I’ve put together some fun and entertaining things that can be done over the weekend if you’re a student at VSU.

1. Many students may not know about this, but there is a little putt putt golf place called Jungle Jym’s down the street from the main campus. Now, the website looks a little sketchy, like it’s meant for kids 7 and under, but hey! It’s different than the usual. In addition to the putt putt golf, they also have an arcade game room, bounce house and soft play area that reminds me of Chuck E. Cheese. As a stressed out college student, this sounds like a fun, stress-free time with some friends.

2. Along the lines of Jungle Jym’s, there is a bowling alley not too far from the school as well, called Jac’s Bowling Lanes. Just a normal, fun bowling alley where you can bowl strikes with your friends and see who’s the best bowler in your group! Fun times for sure. (I always like to take my camera along and take pictures or record the memories we make!)

3. If I don’t say so myself, I think the group of people I hang around are pretty sophisticated, especially the girls. So when Vapor Hookah Lounge opened, which is literally right down the street from campus on Baytree, we were more than happy to check it out. It has a great vibe there where you can dress up (or dress down) and enjoy some hookah with your crowd. Vapor has a variety of hookah flavors to choose from and also provides wine, gyros, wings, and chips. Sounds like a fun night out on the town!

4. A lot of times, the same crowd gets old and you just need to switch things up. Don’t be afraid to hang out with people you normally wouldn’t or go to a party that’s completely different than the usual. I’ve had one of the best college experiences at a toga party at a place I had never been to around people I’d never seen before. It was like a whole new world in the same Valdosta I’d been in for the past year. Stepping out of your comfort zone can open your eyes to new people and new ideas and just may give you some of the best times you ever have!

5. Last but not least, throw your own party or event! Get creative. You can have it at a place no one has ever been before, like a warehouse or just at a local house. You can make a fun, cool theme and make games and little treats to keep your guests entertained. It doesn’t have to be a full party that the whole school knows about; just something to spice up your weekend a bit!
