Become a Foster Parent for a Pet This Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Texas chapter.

Would you really like to come back to your apartment after a long day walking around the forty acres to a sweet and cute pet? Of course you would!

But sometimes, having pets is a lot to handle as college students. Where do you keep your cat or dog during school holidays when you go home? How do you pay for vet visits? Even though a lot of us might want a pet while in college, we often dismiss the idea because of the large commitment involved.

One excellant way to have your cake, and eat it too is by fostering a pet from Austin Pets Alive!

Austin Pets Alive (APA), for those of you who don’t know, is a local no-kill animal shelter. If you have the urge to adopt an animal or just feel like going to share some love, they have three locations around the city to check out!

Fostering is different from adopting a pet in that you are not truly owning the animal. You would be giving a temporary home to a dog or cat and provide them with safe shelter, food, and of course some love until they find a permanent home or need to be transfered to another foster house.

Foster pets are usually placed with a family/individual for around 4-6 weeks and the vet visits are paid for. Fostering a pet with APA is a great way to save animals’ lives!

If you are interested in more information on fostering a dog or cat, please contact APA at foster@austinpetsalive.org

If you are not able to foster a pet, you can still make a donation to APA to help save animals’ lives!

I am Corisa but a lot of my friends call me Cori! I feel like the real life Hannah Horvath from Girls.
