Adventurous Biologist: Felix Omar Mendoza

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPRM chapter.

You’ve probably seen this week’s Campus Cutie’s amazing pictures and rocking body.  He’s lived in Spain, traveled all around Europe and has even been on an Indian Safari. CAAMpus Cutie, Felix Mendoza, is one of the few biologists that has found the balance between school, traveling and fitness.

Name: Felix Omar Mendoza Morales

Major: Biology

Hometown: Añasco, PR

What are your future goals and aspirations?

When people ask me this question I usually say that my goal is to one day be able to travel the world and take good pictures, which is one of those jokes that has some truth to it.  I have always dreamt of working with animals and as a freshman my goal was to one day become a veterinarian but three years into my pre-vet bachelor’s I decided to change my major to Biology.  Although I changed to Biology, I still take pre-vet classes and I don’t discard the possibility of one day working with animals in the future.

Do you have any hobbies?

I love going to the beach and I would say this is my favorite way of spending time.  I also spend a lot of my time training and maintaining a healthy diet, fitness is a priority for me and I enjoy every minute of it.  My other hobbies are traveling, photography and discovering new local places.

If you were to describe yourself in three words, which ones would they be?

Friendly, spontaneous and unique.

Who is your role model and why?

I would say that my role models are my parents, without a doubt.  Their honesty, persistence and courage that they face life with are definitely traits that I value and would love to resemble.

What would you consider your guilty pleasure?

I would say that my guilty pleasure is dancing; if the song has funny lyrics I like to make gestures related to the lyrics.  I just like to be silly!

What is your favorite UPRM memory?

I have a couple of memories from my years here in UPRM that qualify as favorite memories, even though they weren’t really on campus.  Thanks to UPRM I’ve had the chance to travel to unique places and learn about different cultures.  After completing freshman year, I went on the student Europe trip- where students get to travel to 9 different countries in 32 days.  I also had the chance to go to the Indian Safari and to study abroad in Spain, which gave me more time to enjoy Europe.  It had always been my dream to travel and discover different parts of the world, UPRM has given me those opportunities.
