Dear Bucknell Alumni,

As you have been changing the world, Bucknell has also been changing… from how you once knew it. How so, you ask? I’ll let you decide.

Lets start from the bottom and work our way up.

Where is the prime spot for upperclassman Bucknell students to catch up? The Bison… duh. The largest addition: Bata Basil. This new pasta bar has taken over the pizza and pasta section of the Bison that we had all grown to love. It incorporates a mix of pasta choices, different sauces and a variety of veggies and cheese that all gets thrown into a to-go paper bowl and mixed together. Yes, this means that Mac n’ Cheese Monday is not longer a thing to the dismay of students who designated a significant chunk of “dinner time” to waiting in the hellish line for this bison famous dish.  However, if you really can’t live without it, the new BBQ station near the salad bar offers it most days lunch and dinner as a side. I know you are wondering, Quinoa is still going full force and is now offered all 5 days of the week.

In the academic world, Bucknell students returned to find a newly designed Bucknell.edu webpage that offered a lot of confusion. Speaking from personal experience, I did not access Moodle for a solid 3 days because I could not for the life of me figure out how to get to the login page. The reason for this site reconstruction is still non-existent in most of our minds, however I’m sure whoever spent the time and money to do so has a valid one.

Onto a more serious topic… the ordinance that loomed over Bucknell student’s head during the summer months was passed. What does this mean for the Bucknell social scene? Not good things. Each party exceeding 75 people must be registered at the Lewisburg borough and a down payment must be placed before the party to cover any potential damages. Fraternities are facing huge liabilities for anything that may go wrong and citations are running rampant.

The Bucknell student code of conduct has also made significant changes. The biggest changes? The student responsibility pledge is now the Community Responsibility Statement. According to the student code of conduct: Students who break the code of conduct are able to address the violation in a pre-hearing resolution. They are also able to be given warnings that do not appear on their official conduct record. The point system is no longer valid.

As an attempt to completely eliminate the down town party scene, (as if the ordinance hasn’t done enough) Bucknell has assigned a lottery for those students who are able to live down town. Without a lottery number below 30 for gals and below 30 for boys, you are not permitted to sign a lease. In order to satisfy the need of senior living space as a result, administration has built a new senior apartment complex near academic west featuring 4 singles, kitchen, living space and bath apartments and its own food joint.

For those alumni and students who have reached the wonderful age of 21, a new hard cider store in Lewisburg is calling your name!

Now that you are all caught up, enjoy catching up with the old and meeting the new over homecoming weekend, I know I will.

Sincerely,Annie Odell
